Comments Thread For: Ashley Theophane On Board To Face Ricky Burns in UK Showdown

Ashley Theophane is looking for a second crack at championship gold in 2016. Last month, Theophane (39-7-1, 11KOs) tried to capture the vacant WBA junior welterweight championship but he was stopped by Adrien Broner. The belt became vacant after Broner, who held the title, failed to make weight for the Theophane bout.

No thanks. It'll be criminal for Theopane to get another title shot after just losing a one sided fight to Broner. It would beunderstandable if Theo had some good wins but he honestly hasn't won past the domestic level.

This isn't worth a headline, Theophane doesn't even deserve a shot at the British title let alone a world title.

            Bring on BURNS-PROVODNIKOV!

If James Kirkland can go work as a car salesman for 2years and come back and get a shot at the wbc middle weight title or if Khan beating Algieri earns him a shot for the middleweight championship without ever fighting a middleweight or if Geale getting ktfo by GGG then gets to fight Cotto for the middleweight title I see no problem with this fight for Ricky Burns. He went through a rough stretch of tough fights.

Ohh yeah these type of matches are only OK for HBO.

What would you call it? Calling it competitive would be giving Theo too much credit. I watched and gave Theo 2 hard fought rounds. But even those rounds weren't definitive. When Broner let his hands go he controlled the fight, beat Theo up, and eventually stopped him in 9 rounds.

I don't feel he should never fight for a title again but I feel there's a lot of guys at 140 more deserving than him.

I thought it was a good competitive fight, not saying I gave Theo a lot of rounds but he made Broner work and out-hustled him a lot. Of course a lot of that is due to it being Broner, but it wasn't a walk in the park fight for him.

I agree in that he shouldn't be getting a title fight, cause he's just not good. But when you have a promoter like Mayweather backing you then you get preferential treatment. Which sucks for guys more deserving out there
