Comments Thread For: Roach: Floyd Mayweather Asked Me To Train Conor McGregor

Count Freddie Roach among those convinced talk of a Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Conor McGregor boxing match is more than just a publicity stunt. The International Boxing Hall of Fame trainer told Bas Rutten and Mauro Ranallo during a segment for "Inside MMA" that Mayweather came to his Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood last week and asked Roach to train McGregor for their fight. The phone interview aired Friday night on AXS TV

I thought I was the only one that caught that. But I can't imagine the dudes at wild card kicking floyds butt. Roach acts like Floyd been out for years. It's been 9 months. These days boxers regularly have lay offs longer then that.

They must have some monsters at Wild Card West. Either that or Floyd is just badly out of shape at the moment.

I think he's talking about Conor in that section, not Floyd, it's just the article is a bit disjointed. But McGregor had been to that gym in recent weeks and some other places.

Its sparring, you want to get good work in sparring, we all know if Floyd even gets hit that means he isnt doing that well

Why would Floyd be training at Wild card when he has his own gym? Pretty sure they meant Mcgregor is at WCW training and getting worked by the pros there.

Roach also said after the Bradley 3 fight:

                    Link: http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/izen...against_a.html

                    A piece of the article:

                    By: JERRY IZENBERG

Roach: "Look, if he means it about retiring, then more power to him, He's earned it. But if he changes his mind after what I saw tonight, yes, I would encourage him and I would not hesitate to train him again.

Roach:"When I see Manny Pacquiao like that, this is the best Manny Pacquiao. He hasn't missed a beat. I would like to see him fight again."

Roach: And there are big fights out there for him (Pacquiao). Canelo Alvarez and Amir Kahn would draw big numbers. And then, of course, anybody who understands boxing knows that when Pacquiao tore his shoulder before and during the Mayweather fight, nothing — absolutely nothing — was truly settled on that night.
