does the status become inverted if the regular wins? Or does the regular become vacant? Or does it stay the same?

When Floyd fought Canelo he was Super WBA champ and Canelo was regular champ...the regular title went vacant and thats how Lara ended up with itComment

Who knows with the WBA. The whole purpose of Super Champion was suppose to mean a guy was unified, but that quickly changed.Comment

My guess of things is that the WBA "Super" champion is the WBA's champion (positioned as such to avoid scenarios like what has happened with the WBC/IBF, where more meaningful fights have been scuttled over mandatory defense issues).
The WBA "regular" champion is left having to contend with mandatory challengers (getting their own mandated shot at the "super" champion within 14 months)Comment
