Comments Thread For: Focal Point: Lebedev Rises To Top Of Red-Hot Cruiserweight Division

    Time is of the essence.

For the cruiserweight division, that time is now, as boxing fans will struggle to currently find a more exciting weight division and not even limited to the incredible action produced in recent weeks.

American cable network Showtime recently attempted to create that magic with the super welterweight (154-pound) division, but its efforts were limited to three bouts in a single telecast. The good fortunes of boxing's junior heavyweights (yes, fully aware of it not being the division's correct name) have been spread throughout the month of May, producing Fight of the Year candidates, thrilling knockouts and even a unification bout while one solid entry still remains.

With a division packed with awesome talent, Levedev may currently be the best. The real challenge at cruiserweight is becoming the undisputed champ and remaining at the top. There's so much talent coming up the ranks and already there, it's probably the toughest division to carve a legacy out in right now.

Although a great war, the Breidis/Durodola fight was marred once again by dodgy, corrupt hometown reffing. Even though Breidis was well on his way to winning, and probably would have stopped Durodola, it was a ridiculous stoppage. That doesn't even go into the point deduction earlier in the fight, which came out of the blue for seemingly nothing.

Great fight, but these commissions have to understand that if they want to get on the map, they have to show some integrity and keep their officiating clean and free of the promoters and managers meddling.

The Browne/Chagaev fight was another disgrace. They did everything they could during the fight, and before from what Browne has said, to make sure the title didnt leave and when Browne still won, suddenly up pops a nonsensical positive drug test, the type typically taken to make weight (except heavyweights dont have to make weight), after he'd tested clean right before the fight already.

Man, Shumenov isn't even a top 10 cruiserweight. People mention his "influential family" very often. No kidding.

Lebedev (along with Provodnikov and Kudryashov) is the scariest-looking dude in boxing, bar none. He looks like he has a cleft lip in that thumbnail pic.

He has one although he must have had a bit of surgery to fix it a little.

I agree that cruiser weight div. was boring but to say at this moment that its a waste of a division only means that YDKSAB. Cruiserweight is red hot at this point.

Yeah fighting in the old soviet bloc is very dodgy but as long as the oligarchs throw their billions of stolen money at fights they will continue to get the best. US fans get lopsided garbage and as usual only the Gassiev predictable blow out was televised. Hopefully Gassiev and Dorticos fight on US soil along with Glowacki who has some PBC fights. US needs a boxnation badly.
