It's not. I'm sure GB attorneys and Richard Schaefer (One of the smartest minds in boxing) looked over the contracts probably 1000x over. It's normal for court cases to go this long. Usually they settle but even All Star is saying it's better for them it took so long so they can try and get that Cotto, Mayweather money from this fights.

I can't recall a single case. But I think Golden Boy and Cenelo should've used this trial as an excuse to vacate the title. It seems like a big deal because of ASB refusal to settle and continue on after 5 years. But other than here I haven't heard anything else about it. Paul Gift and Jason Cruz are usually on top of MMA and Boxing related legal news. I haven't seen them covering this one at all. Maybe it isn't a big deal.
I mean if this was that cut & dry a thing wouldn't the push to have had this decided be much greater? I know this might be a bad analogy, but its like if someone stole your car, you can prove its your car & the guy who stole your car keeps pushing back the court date as they use your car for the next 5 years. I mean can that happen more or less with a fighter?
I'm guessing ASB can get some money out of this, but I feel like they are likely overplaying their hand with that if anything sensible is able to be discussed as to what ASB would've been able to do for Canelo's career vs what GBP was able to do do for Canelo's career.Comment

Yea honestly I can't see this being THAT big a deal at least in relation to ASB getting promotional rights to Canelo back.

Not sure but they really feel it does because so far they've refused to settle and they've been waiting on a trial date since 2011 and refused every settlement attempt. It sounds like not only do they want money for his fights but they also want him back under their outfit.Comment

Yes potentially (depends on the facts) but if they have a case they are only getting monetary damages. Could be very large sum maybe, everything will depend on the facts.
BUT the idea that ASB would get Canelo back (which they stated is what they want) is ****ing absurd.
They're basically asking for what is called "specific performance" in a personal services contract. Never going to happen. Period.
Specific performance is only the preferred remedy for breach in the case of land sale contracts. Everything else is monetary damages.Comment
