As a senior member of this forum i have great knowledge of the boxing world and its politics and what not, anyways lets get in to this amazing golovkin breakdown. Wall of text inc...
Statement #1
"Omg Golovkin is such a bum, hasnt faced any A-side"
While i agree that his record is not very impressive and it definetly could be better, it has to be said that he has up until recently been a high risk low reward opponent, Martinez didnt want nun, Canelo rly just shotting himself in the foot with excuses hes making instead of just sayin he aint rdy or whatever, danny jacobs actin all shook n shyt, like he dont exist.
My point being, Golovkins set of skills are infact the real deal, ring generalship, technique and power and smart boxing iq, and sets up his huge power instead of slugging like many of the other big punchers does, meanwhile he does get tagged often but has that strong chin but we cant possibly know for sure how he would handle a mobile elite opponent like Lara or Ward, also Golovkins handspeed isnt very impressive but he makes up for it in creative combionations and angles that always seems to find target sooner or later, and besides those 35 professional fights he does have 400+ amateur fights and silver medal in the olympics in a fight that couldve gone either way.
Statement #2
"Lil G must dare to be great, he need to move up to 168 to face Ramirez, Ward etc"
Imo he doesnt need to go anywhere or hunt any specific foe, cause in the coming months they are gonna materialize. He wants to collect the belts and unify the division by going the Hagler route, i dont see why the hell not. And Golovkin doesnt seem like a big middleweight either, would probably fare better of by dropping to 154 rather then moving up to 168 if he had to choose.
Statement #3
"But theres no good opponents for GGG at middleweight theyre all bums!"
While i agree that the so called "top fighters" of the middleweight division are mediocre at best (with the exception of Danny Jacobs, hes good), there are alot of upcoming fighters that might be ready for GGG in the coming year of 2017 or 2018, heres the list of fighters that have not already been mentioned as potential future opponents of GGG:
Ievgen Khytrov 13-0
The heavyhanded ukrainian with the short t-rex arms, has around 500 amateur bouts, probably gonna be in the title picture in 2017
Sergiy Derevyanchenko 8-0
Also a ukrainian amateur standout, not as heavy handed as Khytrov but arguably the more technically skilled fighter, hence his nickname: The Technician, he is also being moved at a fast pace and will probably see title contention in 2017
Arif Magomedov 17-0
Russian top prospect, while he seems like a fighter who can make it to the top i dont think he will be able to trouble GGG cause his sluggish style seems pretty much tailormade for Golovkins stalking seek and destroy style
Demetrius Andrade 22-0
Already past the prospect phase and ready to prove himself against Willie Nelson in a couple of weeks we will se just how good he is. Andrade looks to be a very talented fighter and has openly spoken about facing the best, and seeing him being tall and lanky its probably just a matter of time before he moves up in weight, so this is potentially one to look out for.
Jermall Charlo 23-0
Charlo is already a world titleholder and is going to fight experienced and former world champion austin trout tonight, so we will see soon just how good he is, but just as in the case of Demetrius Andrade, Charlo looks like a complete fighter and is almost as tall as him and has also openly said that he is having problem making weight, so he will probably move up soon, so if he dares to be great this is also a fight to look out for.
Jermell Charlo 27-0
I dont think this one is as likely to happen, not because i think Jermell is any less talented then his brother, Jermell has a more technical defensive style, and Jermell is shorther and smaller and seems better suited for the junior middleweight division, and i think it will be a while before he moves up.
Julian J-Rock Williams 22-0-1
Just as the Charlos and Andrade, Julian Williams also seems like the complete package and he is on currently on a crash course with Jermall Charlo, and just like him he has stated having problems making weight and fighting the best, out of all of these contenders, J-Rock is the one i think is most likely to face Golovkin, J-rock is old school and he is going to want to take a bite of the kazakh cake
Ryota Murata 10-0
Hate to see what Bob Greedberg is doing to this guys career, feeding him these gatekeepers, but he is clearly talented and has won olympic gold 2012, but he needs better opponents that tests him so he can get ready for the top guys, cause right now hes definetly not ready, and also he is 30 years old so time i kinda ticking, which once again makes you question wtf bobby is doing
Maciej Sulecki 22-0
Polish prospect seems pretty solid, has fought alot of round and seems like hes ready to step up soon, him vs GGG probably wont happen next year
Alfonso Blanco 12-0
The Paul Williams looking venezuelan is currently the WBA interim champ, and also has an extensive amateur background, but imo he aint ready for GGG anytime soon, looks like a solid fighter with LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG reach, id say get him atleast 5 more solid fights
Erislandy Lara 22-2-2
Lara is also fighting tonight and is a very good fighter with that cuban style boxing that might not always be pretty but damn effective, as of right now i think Lara is the only fighter except for Ward (who is 2 Weights above) that would be capable of beating Golovkin
Im not saying i think Erislandy Lara straight up hands Golovkin his first L but i see it in 3 different scenarios:
1. Lara outboxes Golovkin to win a moderately close decision
2. Lara outboxes Golovkin early, Golovkin catches up midfight, punishes Lara, Golovkin stops Lara between round 8-12
3. Golovkin crushes Lara
As i see it, Golovkin is such a complete fighter no slugger or lesser boxer will be able to beat him until he is out of his prime but a master boxer like Lara is someone who can give Golovkin problems, as i mentioned earlier he is there to be hit and if Lara fought a smart and calculated fight he might be able to pull it off, it all depends really if he can negate Golovkins ring generalship, cause if Golovkin can walk down Lara like Canelo and Alfredo Angulo did then Lara is no match, but if he can box around GGG and annoy and frustrate him there is a chance, and while Lara is not a monster puncher he definetly has good power, so GGG cant stand there and be hit all night, cause that way Lara could stack dem points for that possible decision win.
Now you may be wondering what about Ward? imo the fight is atm no longer relevant but i do believe Ward has the highest chance of any boxer of defeating GGG, its hard to say how much Ward will have accomplished when his career is over but i do believe he will be up there with Mayweather when its all said and done, hes that good. Therefore its very sad to see that this fight never got made, cause it would definetly be a very interesting matchup
So to sum it up,
the only realistic opponent that can beat GGG is imo:
Erislandy Lara and Andre Ward if he hadnt moved up to LHW
also i wouldnt count out Danny Jacobs either, if Jacobs vs Golovkin would go the distance then i see Jacobs doing the busier work, but in reality i dont see Jacobs vs Golovkin going the distance, most likely scenario is Jacobs getting KOd but Jacobs always has that punchers chance, doesnt really matter how good GGGs chin is. if Jacobs hits Golovkin clean with his best punch Golovkin would definetly be in problems
Thoughts?
