exactly. beautifully f-++-n' exposedOriginally posted by YogiIt's either James Jeffries, Jack Dempsey or Rocky Marciano...and contrary to what most in this thread believe, arguments can be made supporting any of those three fighters.Comment

How can you not have Dempsey? Dempsey would have a better chance of fighting in todays era then any of the guys from the past. Also James J Corbett deserves some respect. He was small for a heavyweight when he fought but he really did teach the division how to box and as a lightheavy he would be an all time great. I think Vitali Klitschko could beat Marciano's ass, but Marciano would KO Dempsey. Marciano, Dempsey and Klitshco are close. What Klitshco does in the next five years could put him at the top or barely top ten.Originally posted by fist-of-furyIn the 70's, it's called the GREAT WHITE HOPE. I think so far Vitaly Klitschko has got what it takes to be the greatest white heavyweight boxer of all time. (Do we consider John Ruiz, who has been a title-holder for sometime now, a "white"?)
A number of white sluggers in the past also comes to mind. They provided life, excitement and top-caliber challenges in the black-dominated heavyweight division.
Rocky Marciano
Joe Bugner
Tommy Morrison
Gerry Cooney
Duane Bobick
Henry Cooper
Jerry Quarry
George Chuvalo
Gerrie Coetzee
Chuck Wepner (who inspired the first Rocky movie)
Randy "Tex" Cobb
James "Bonecrusher" Smith
to name a few.
