Fight Golovkin Or Be Labelled A Coward. Is Canelo's Reputation On The Line?

Did Canelo put himself in a position where he has to face Golovkin to save his reputation?

Yep. And he and his team not saying anything for 72 hours so far while he's being labeled a coward doesn't make it any better. Time is not going to make this go away. Golden Boy and Team Canelo needs to come out and say something. Have you seen the way he's being blasted on social media? I know people will say it's just the internet. But other boxers are ridiculing him. It's open season on Canelo. Even Estrada is getting in on the action. smh

Remember when Adrien Broner was talking all that **** before his fight with Maidana? Then he got in the ring and got his ass beat? Social media went crazy making memes and clowning Broner. It went away after a couple of days. Broner fought again and he's more popular now than he was then. But when social media was teasing Broner you didn't see fellow boxers joining in. And you'll never hear anybody call Broner a coward (except idiots who DKSAB), not even his haters. Everybody is going in on Canelo. He's labeled as being afraid of GGG. Even if he isn't afraid of him that's going to be the perception because he gave up the belt. No matter what he does or who he fights next he'll always be remembered as giving up the belt in order not to fight GGG.

He still has a couple weeks to make the fight happen.

I just sincerely hope this wasn't all planned long ago and that Canelo secretly agreed to fight Cotto again in September.

Don't be ridiculous, Canelo is facing a true threat, someone close to his own size who could really damage him:

"AP - Mex: The manager and promoter of the boxer Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, the well known ex-boxer Oscar De La Hoya, gave a recent frank discussion about his fighters next plans:

"Canelo is a good boxer, but he's not a natural 160" said Hoya. "The close competitive fight with the dangerous, iron-jawed Khan has also convinced us that 155 isn't Canelo's natural weight. We've decided to go down to 154 and fight a true contender."

There are multiple strong opponents for Canelo at 154, including a rematch with Lara, the Charlo brothers, and Andrade. De La Hoya, however, had something more special in mind:

"We've been watching a lot of Golovkin's fights, and were really impressed with the undercard. Roman Gonzalez has a lot of quick movement, deals a lot of damage...we're aiming for a fight at 154 with "Choclatito". It only makes sense - Canelo is rated as a pound for pound champ, and so is Gonzalez."

I noticed. From the fans, fighters, reporters, the kid is getting slammed pretty hard by everyone.

Let's see what happens. Don't know what the plan is for Golden Boy and team Canelo. Right now it seems like a PR disaster.

Canelo could make all this criticism go away if he went on a campaign and unified the JWM division with all 4 belts.

That would probably buy him til May '18 to fight Golovkin. The Undisputed MW champ vs the Undisputed JMW champ - that would constitute a proper marination.

Another example. Frampton dropped his belt to move up and fight LSC. Only idiots who DKSAB and Rigo fanboys are saying he's ducking Rigo. A guy that would outbox Frampton for 12 rds. But he's fighting LSC in his first fight in a higher weight class. LSC will punish him for 12 rds if it goes that far.
