Naw I don't think a technical Ukrainian can be a star in USA.
Vasyl Lomachenko is going to be a HUGE star the next few years

A quality fighter no doubt. Just think, after only 6 fights he already has a better resume than g string. Huge star? With HBOs faltering boxing program and his seemingly inability to land quality fights, probably not.Comment

I think its really hard to become a HUGE star in boxing in the US when you aren't American or Latino. Really the only people who've done it are Manny & Lennox Lewis that I can think of. Obviously to a much lesser level for Lennox.
Loma has a big uphill battle & will need to fight many high profile & known Mexican fighters to get anywhere. And thus far I think Arum has done a subpar job of getting him mainstream although maybe thats part of the plan with the 1 L on his record cuz alot of fans can't handle a guy with a L being a top fighter in particular when they don't even have double digit wins yet.
Then again I still feel like Arum should be keeping Loma more active even if he's fighting subpar guys right now. Definitely a huge uphill climb to make Loma a star in the US. I think he's a guy I might be trying to take to Macau if Arum is still looking at doing Macau fights in the future.Comment

Based off the state of boxing and where it's headed, he'll be a cherry picking machine and be considered great. The talent and skill level is there but none of these top guys are going to fight each other like that...it could be the promoters fault or the fighters themselves.
It's hard to access these guys 100% when they don't and won't step in the ring with a challenge. Saying it is one thing, doing it, is what most fighters AREN'T DOING.Comment

I don't see it. Pac and Floyd are the outliers and they had to move up to WW to REALLY become superstars. What HBO and Top Rank did with them is very hard to do. Manny had the Filipino following and Floyd the hip hop following on top of that. What does Lomachenko have? It's just impossible unless you are latino or much bigger.
Golovkin is just now getting there and he is a Middleweight who knocks every opponent out.Comment

As a Loma fan I hope he does become a star. I don't even need to see him reach Mayweather or Pacquiao type of stardom, that would be extremely difficult. The only fighter that could potentially reach that level of stardom is probably Anthony Joshua, people just seem to love Joshua; maybe Canelo has a shot as well.
Here a funny thing. People are always trash talking Loma, but when it comes to interesting match-ups Loma is one of the guys that gets mentioned the most. The only two other guys that seem to get mentioned more are Kovalev and GGG, but Loma seems to have more quantity of opposition.
It's usually, "I want to see Loma vs. Walters, Rigondeaux, Santa Cruz, Russell II, Gamboa, Salido II, Vargas." I predict in about a year people will also want the Loma vs. Valdez and Verdejo fights.
It's just funny, people like to diss him but it sure seems like they want to watch Loma in several fights.
Arum and Top Rank have to start doing a better job with Loma. Loma should be fighting at least three times a year.
If everything goes well against Martinez Loma should be back in August/ September then in late November or December. The he should be back in March or April of next year.
Of course Loma is not a Top Rank favorite like some people think.
Top Rank has a picture of some of their fighters and those fighters include Pacquiao, Crawford, Verdejo, Valdez, Ramirez, now those are the Top Rank favorites. I'm not complaining I just don't like how people act like Top Rank is so in favor of Loma.Comment

Not likely considering how HBO the network he fights on is Dumbing Down Boxing So Much and trying to make it all about knock outs. That will hurt skilled fighters like Loma as well, I don't think they can or will appreciate his talent and skills because all they want is KnockoutsLast edited by sicko; 05-20-2016, 11:45 AM.Comment
