no, i wouldn't go so far as to say that some people are born to fight. that's the simple answer.

many people seemed to be confused about issues like this and it is the same line of thinking where people think some fighters are born automatically with powerfull punches.

i tend to side with the legendary jack dempsey for example rather than teddy atlas on topics like this.

the history of boxing and martial arts are littered with examples of weak and uncoordinated people who grew up to be top level fighters.

if anyone can get a chance to read "championship fighting" by jack dempsey, please do. i highly recommend this book to everyone who is a boxer, or is interested in developing a better, more powerfull punch.

Its all in the upbringing. If they are raised like ******* then they will be. If they are raised to be strong...

It has to do with the enviornment that kids grow up in, nobody is born a fighter. They are molded by things that happen in their lives and by their surroundings.
i was about to write something along this line, but you beat me to it. environment, especially in the early ages of a kids development, have an impact to some degree or another.

Another example...is Wladimir Klitschko. He's a class guy, who probably never had a streetfight his entire life either (Well I'm unsure) but he's not a tough guy.
what the hell....? wladimir is not tough? how did he manage to have an outstanding amateur career of over 200 fights, an olympic gold medal, and nearly 50 fights by the age of 30 and not be tough. i've never seen him not beat a 10 count. i've never seen him get ktfo.

personally, i think you have to tough in order to be a boxer or martial artist. i think you have to be tough to even want to pursue these as careers.

You're crazy if you think you can just be born a world class fighter...it takes living in the gym, eating sleeping breathing boxing, and just be 110% dedicated to being the best.

Some people just have the genes to be faster and with quicker reflexes, but it still takes lots of training to chip away and mold you into the best fighter you can be. That applies to any sport. Ask MJ how many hours he used to spend in the gym.

I'd say im a natural born fighter, i found boxing myself when i was 5 my dad n family tryed to hide me away from fightin bcos all ma mums brothers were really good boxers, but the minute i seen mike tyson i was in love with the sport, then guys like toney ali rocky moore came into ma life, now i hav over 2000 fights on dvd tape and pc ive studyed boxin and done it since i was a kid i love this thing, i was put here simply to box, n i say box, bcos it doesnt matter if i win a title or win anythin, as long as im in the ring fightin im happy

I believe Tyson was born to fight, his size and power and speed was unnatural. However if you look at Mayweather his whole family are fighters but Mayweather has been trained since he was born.

Im 19 and i done martial arts for 2 years and i was probably one of the best in my dojo, and ive started some boxing training but do you believe that you can learn how to fight like a true champion?..
you are born with talent but grace is acheived by hard core training...training is what defines a GREAT fight...see Ali..

As in any sport you can have physical gift's and thing's but you have to WANT IT to be successful at the highest level, your surrounding's and upbringing have alot to do with it in most situation's but not alway's. I think the talent thing can take you so far but especially to maintain it you must put in the work, that's the difference between probably two of my favorite fighter's(Toney, Mayweather). If Toney had the dedication and workethic his whole career maybe he's not just a H of Famer but regarded even higher in All Time lists. Mayweather is unique because you could argue he's as talented as anybody, comes from the fightin'g family, yet has the work ethic and dedication that'll probably send him into many ppl's top ten all time when it's all said and done. If not then you know you did everything you could as opposed to alway's wondering what could've been!

of course you can, but don't try and learn to fight like anyone else, develope your style, and if you want to throw similar punch like your favorite fighter then go ahead but add it to your style, conform the style to your style, everyfighter starts with the basics, no one starts off supper talented. you got to stick with it and practice, practice, practice. almost all the great ones have a super ego, why? cause they belive they can beat any fighter, and that how is should be you have to have a stong menatlity.

i can tell you fernando vargas, wasn't the best fighter in his gym, they've told me their was this other fighter who was better then him, but as the saying goes "get good sparring and you'll get better" vargas keep sparring this guy and he finally got better then him. the other guy got side tracked in his boxing career while vargas stayed with the boxing and the rest is history.

to be the best, to be a good fighter, three important things you need, and anyone can tell you this, conditioning, a strong menality, and practice.
