Last interview he did on floydhype said was going campaign at 140 before making move to 147

140 might be too high right now. He's not a big fighter, he's actually pretty small so 140-47 might be a bit too much imo.

I think team Garcia settled on 140 during the lawsuit. I think he should try to gradually make 135 until he fills out. He is a smallish lightweight. He started at 126. He can beat a lot of 140ers but I'd like him to get some fights under his belt. I know Garcia vs Bud is a fight fans would like to see but I prefer it be a fine tuned Garcia. Not one coming off a 2.5 year lay off

According to our resident expert Pandas, "a boxer doesn't have to be signed to a promoter at all." I'm still waiting for an answer why this Garcia family that's been in the business since time immemorial is looking for a promoter. Why can't Mikey just go directly to Haymon, who we all know has been Mikey's sole target manager when he left Arum.

Playing his options. Why wouldn't he see whats being offered. He's flying out to meet with Don King soon too (Robert was talking about that last night on a podcast). Mikey is about to be running his own promotion thus will be promoting himself soon it sounds like.

And JoeMan as the resident "a boxer has to have a promoter" expert can you tell me who Keith Thurman's promoter is? Who's Shawn Porter's promoter? Who's Deontay Wilder's promoter? There are a ton of notable guys without promoters with Haymon.

And there are thousands more boxers without promoters. 99% of club show guys don't got a promoter. This ain't a crazy concept brother. Probably 99% of the fighters in the world have no promoter beyond a one fight handshake-y type deal for a specific card thats a few days to 8 weeks away.

Good question. And that's what I've been telling you to look into. These names you mentioned started out with promoters on their side. Thurman, for example, was with Schaefer everywhere he went, if you remember. What has happened to their status?

They are free of a promoter. And like I said most fighters in the business are as well. Its the most common promoter status by far in the boxing world: Promoter-less.

Good question. And that's what I've been telling you to look into.
And what exactly am I supposed to be looking into? You don't need a promoter thats the long & short of it.

You definitely don't need a promoter once you've acquired a name for yourself. Why more of the biggest names in the sport do have a promoter, usually contractually obligated to them for several years, than don't is probably a comfort &/or risk thing, but I don't know enough about behind the scenes stuff to speculate about that all that strongly. Plus there are a lot of promoter traps that keep guys in promoter relationships (Top Rank specifically seems above average at this via offering big fights, but with contract extensions included to get the big fight) that make it harder once you've acquired a name for yourself.

Mostly I think guys don't even consider it cuz like you they just think you need a promoter. Or its just a hassle to go that route. I think most guys are just wanting to focus on being the best boxer they can become or day to day training & their own lives outside of boxing. I don't think they focus too much on what they see as the "realities" of the business beyond their narrow view or what they see as something that is above their pay grade.

You're basically just saying this Garcia family is ****** for even considering looking for another promoter to screw them again. A family that's been in the business for a long time. Oh well... Any one care to ask them on social media?

I have no clue how you took that away from anything.

Everything points to the Garcia family getting deeper into the boxing world with Mikey promoting (while headlining) & Robert managing their fighters. They are getting flown to Florida on Don King's dime. They are hanging out with Floyd in Vegas. Where is the harm in that? He hasn't committed to anything or signed anything one would assume. Hell maybe someone will offer him a deal that makes sense to him & is more than he'll be making on his own & isn't a sketchy ass contract. But I suspect he's simply gaining some knowledge of how others work, making some contacts for future co-promoted fights &/or just enjoying being pampered a lil bit while mfers are willing to pamper him after he's had his **** in the dirt for 2 years now.

Feel free revisit this thread at a future date if Mikey signs with Mayweather Promotions or whatever bs operation Don King is running these days or someone else cuz I think this is just a guy with his own plan already in play thats learning more about how promoters operate & taking his time right now.

Mikey isn't a dummy & where is the harm in looking into the business you are about to enter more behind the scenes by discussing the business with guys like King & Floyd who've had great success doing what they do (or did in King's case). Hell I'd go talk to King even doe I know he's one of the great crooks in the boxing business just to see if he'd fake play the piano for me like he did the Klitschko's or performed some other feat I'd have a story to tell about to friends later.
