He was afraid from the opening bell and Tyson beat him into retirement.

Michael Spinks is one of the greatest light heavyweight champions ever, in my opinion. While both his fights with Larry Holmes were close, I thought he squeaked out the decision in the first one and lost the second. Regardless, the judges gave him both and he was the linear heavyweight champion.

With his herky-jerky style and defense, I thought he had a chance against Tyson, but it was the case, as with Bob Foster, of a great light heavyweight crossing paths with a good to great heavyweight (Tyson, Frazier, Ali, ...).

My overriding memory of the Spinks-Tyuson fight is Spinks looking scared ****less, especially when Tyson does him with 90n seconds on the clock.

          Lol

What a bunch of ****in' know-nothing jag-offs you are....dissing Michael Spinks like this.

The guy was one of the best Lt Heavyweights ever, one of the best punchers ever while at that weight.

He was the first Lt. Heavy to win the heavy crown.
He was past his prime when he fought Tyson, period. Prime weight, prime time....were past him.

For you ****** asses, especially you Tyson fans, to disresepect him is inexplicable.

            Calling this guy a ***** ? Tyson's the *****.

Too true, Michael Spinks was a great fighter. He was tipped to stand a good chance of beating Tyson at the time they fought.

Well wasn't he still young when he faced Tyson. He didn't have that many fights under his belt, either..

If you knew a little more about boxing, you'd know that one's age & amount of fights doesn't determine what their prime is.

What fight before the Tyson fight marked the end of his prime?
