Was Sergio Martinez Punished For Beating Chavez Jr?

his career was going great after knocking out Paul Williams and seems like he's the next big star. he has the skills, the looks and an image of a man who can be marketed very well. then he faced Chavez Jr and made some comments about how bad he is going to beat him and he clearly did.

now we all know how close the Chavez's are with the underworld especially with the Cartels. after beating Chavez he then suddenly got injured but as they say just part of his training or natural cause. but what if that injury was sustained by an act of retaliation from the underworld?

whatever the case was he turned to shyt and just faded away and made look like a bum during the Cotto fight on purpose. anyone know how he is?

Age+knee problems is no bueno. I would've loved to see prime Serg face Cotto and Golo.

Sergio tore his knee to shreds in round 12 against Chavez.

He survived round 12 while badly hurt and hobbling around on torn knee ligaments, it was a tough showing but also the end of his career.

3 knee surgeries between that 12th round and the Cotto fight rendered him crippled, in boxing terms.

            How was he punished..

Afterwards he scored the biggest fight of his career, in a match where he was considered the favorite vs cotto..

He also got a gift decision vs murray after the chavez fight

If they wanted to punish him I guess he outsmarted them in the end... Murray got robbed then Sergio cashed in against Cotto in parachute pants to hide his gigantic knee braces, admitting he couldn't even spar in camp.

Laughed all the way to the bank.

Had Sergio foreseen a long title reign and continued to defend against conventional challengers, next in line would have been none other than Gennady Golovkin. He would have made a fraction of the cash and been beaten just as badly.

No, Chavez Jr. is a bum and so is Martinez.

Martinez was one of my favorites, I love his unorthodox style. He kinda reminded me of De la Hoya in the sense that he was a pretty boy that could actually fight! I thought he stood a good chance of beating Mayweather had they fought at 154lbs before his injury.

Me too, such a shame he didn't get the chance to.
