does anybody think mayweather is about to become a mainstream celebrity? let's just say he beats de la hoya in their possible/proposed matchup. would that be the final step to superstardom? i mean 23 million dollars for a fight? that's a lot. and that's also what mainstream athletes get paid. even if he doesn't step up to that level he's definately being treated like a sports superstar these days.

oddly enough i've noticed (at least around where i live) that the judah fight raised mayweather awareness to casual sports fans i know. it makes little to no sense to me, but people who would have asked me who mayweather even was 2 months ago were suddenly hyping that fight, hah.

Sure in the publics view, but I believe the hardore boxing fans see him as a villian for skipping over 140 so fast without fighting Hatton, and then opting out of a fight with Margarito. He also has the "I know it all, I'm the best" attitude about everything. I bet he would argue with a plane designer about how to design a plane better.
