Serious question about GGG vs Canelo

I dont know if this question has been asked before but if they fight, will the loser of the fight star status go down?..I think Canelo has more to lose but I dont know.I am not talking about this forum but mostly general or casual fans..I am sure it all depends on the type of fight but if both come out swinging and boxing ala barrera vs morales, their star status will stay intact. What is the general opinion?

If GGG loses he will lose alot of credibility, he also has not much time to rebuild.

If Canelo loses, it's not too bad. GGG is the supposed monster of the MW division and Canelo will gain more from a valiant effort in a defeat than not fighting him at all.

I'm expecting this to be a really good fight so I think it'll increase both of their statuses for casuals who watch it. I'm hoping it'll become the next great boxing trilogy. Obviously if either guy gets KO'd in 2 or 3 rounds in a one sided ass beating it'll diminish that guys standing, but I don't think that'll happen or I'd be surprised if it did.

Can't know much yet. Could hypothesize all day and all night and YET.....STILL We are only dreaming. But....Junei honed better of the two REPLYS here. Alvarez credibly come into question now. He yet is still -good- so long as he comes thru on the Action side!

Agreed. Gennady losing would do more damage to his stock then if (when) Canelo loses to GGG.

Depends on the fight itself. If it's some epic fight of the year type battle, that could actually raise both of their stock a bit and an immediate rematch could be an even bigger fight.

Win lose or draw would set the stage for a big money rematch. Unless of course as stated above one demolishes the other in short order. Not much hope of that happening. It will be a great contest. Really looking forward to this one.

If Canelo gets Ko'd it will hurt him bad because where does he go then? He can't make 154lbs. He'll be stuck at 160lbs without the power to make exciting fights and if he gets Ko'd by GGG people like Jacobs will see that and know they can do it too. Even though at 160 IMO Jacobs has Khans chin. Maybe Canelo could fight him But people wouldn't view him the same especially because he's known to be a big boy beating on smaller foes. Look what happened to Chavez jr.

Canelo has infinitely more to lose and that's why the fight only happens on his terms.
If GGG loses he can go back to HBO and fight the bum of the month for the same money he is making now, probably more.
If Canelo loses he is no longer the cash cow, the loss could cost him tens of millions of dollars. GGG is a really good fighter and deserves the fight. As long as he is willing to concede on weigh and purse split.

Fans are most likely tired of the same fighters dominating the discussion. Are there any other top fighters that fans can look forward to seeing fight? Where is Garcia, where is Brook?
