Why Canelo will never be a massive draw!

When Mexican fans think of top Mexican fighters in recent history, they look to Oscar De La Hoya.

Oscar despite being passed his best, did quite well against a prime Floyd Mayweather, winning atleast 4 rounds, maybe even 5. He was fluent in both English, and Spanish and therefore could relate to both the White American and Hispanic American public.

Canelo on the other hand, even if he was drained, didn't even win a single round against Mayweather. In the eyes of Mexicans, they use De La Hoya as a measure against Canelo and Canelo just isn't that good.

Secondly - He does everything pretty well and nothing special. He has no Unique Selling Point.

    Floyd - Master of Defence
Tyson - Unsurpassed power, fear, drama, knocking out bigger men and comedy post fight interviews
De La Hoya - Flamboyant boxer, a joy to watch in his prime
Pacquiao - Small Filipino dude, with rapid hands and speed, knocking out guys a lot bigger then him.

Canelo, is just sadly nothing special. No personality, nothing that exciting in about him.

Agreed. But this will change dramatically if he were to outbox ggg and last 12 rounds.
There's no one else that can catapult his career into a ppv draw.

It also doesnt help that he cant speak english. Its getting kind of annoying listening to his translators all the time.

I don't buy the he don't speak english crap. Chavez didn't speak english and was a huge draw so was Trinidad. As for comparing him to Oscar no doubt Oscar had the much better resume at this same age as Canelo dude is a first ballot HOFer for a reason. But Canelo has one of the better resumes compared to active fighters today and by far the best of any fighter in his age bracket. And while not yet having the in ring accomplishes of Oscar he might actually be the BIGGER PPV attraction at the same age and I think actually has sold more PPVs then Oscar did. Oscar became the mega PPV star and the number 1 draw in boxing years later but he wasn't that yet by age 25.

He doesn't speak a lick of English. That doesn't transcend well into superstardom.

It's not a big deal really, he's still one of the biggest if not the biggest name in boxing, right now. I could care less of he becomes Manny, Floyd star level.

Hes doing pretty good for a farm kid, from Mexico.

Exactly, name me a superstar from/on American soil that can't speak English.

It just doesn't mesh well. You NEED to speak English to be a superstar in USA. It can be broken, it can be ebonic, but it just has to be. PERIOD.

English can only help him but it certainly didn't stop Trinidad or Chavez from becoming superstars and big draws.
