It makes as much sense as me saying...Its just like Wilder having to travel to Russia to fight Povetkin...
It's crazy. Never seen so many people try to find a reason for this fight not happening in September. The lineal MW needs time to adjust to MW......He gave him an interim fight to adjust and what did he do? He fought a WW. There is no valid reason this fight should be pushed back until May. Not even a possible Floyd-Canelo rematch should push this fight back.

Plus when they offered Cotto to fight Golovkin he turned that fight down quick! these are the same Ricans that said that Cotto was going to give Canelo a boxing leason because he was the A side, Bull Crap! everybody else like Floyd and Cotto were making there demands and now Canelo can't do the same, Golovkin vs Canelo will get made but that time will come when it comes

Canelo will drop that WBC belt before he's forced to do anything. Canelo being the WBC MW champ has an asterisk next to it anyways. The fact remains he won it vs a small JMW in Cotto and has yet to ever face an actual 160lb fighter.

Ward's fought above 168lbs multiple times just like Alvarez has been fighting at 155lbs. But they can have a pass if they want to acclimate to the full weight class before facing the top fighters there. The title Alvarez has really means nothing other than he needs to vacate it or be stripped.

I don't think many people really view him as a legit middleweight champ. He's never fought above 155 and beat a guy in Cotto who never should've had the shot at the belt.

I can't take his belt seriously until he beats Golovkin. Same way I never thought of him as a champ at 54 until he beat Trout. His status as champ isn't legitimate until the GGG fight happens.

Unless GGG agrees to fight Canelo at 155 the fight ain't happening at 160 he'll vacate the title

Lol, that's true! Canelo won his WBC 154lbs belt at 150lbs vs WW Matthew Hatton. This guy has a history...

What bothers me the most about this whole Canelo 155 deal is the Lineal title. The belts and sanctioning bodies are corrupt, which is to be expected to some degree when so much money is involved. But the lineal title represents the heritage of the division. It represents the courage and will of all of the great champions of the past. Its the "family tree" of the champions, and should never be won or lost at a catchweight. Saul Alvarez would be a disgrace to the tradition of the sport to enforce a catchweight for the Lineal title.

The lineal title comes and goes and has limited meaning. The 'lineal flame' has gone out I think 7 different times in the history of MW division, like when Greb lost to Flowers and Flower lost to Walker and Walker left the division never to return. Hopkins never won the actual lineal title b/c it ceased to exist. After Leonard beat Hagler, he eventually moved back to JMW (after vacating the MW's titles and fighting for SMW titles) and lost to Terry Norris.

Far as I'm concerned, when Martinez lost to a JMW in Cotto and that title has never been defended vs another full 160lber, the 'lineal flame' has gone out again. Golovkin unifying the belts like Hopkins did, is what reestablishes the true 'lineal' title.
