Comments Thread For: Canelo-Golovkin: WBA Will Wait Out Talks Before Ordering Jacobs

A single, undisputed champion is easy enough for fans to identify as "the man," but with the collection of belts often also comes a collection of mandatory title challenges. Gennady Golovkin is in a unique situation, having already satisfied one mandatory challenge and with another on hold until negotiations are completed or killed -for his own due title shot. The unbeaten, unified middleweight titlist also presently serves as the World Boxing Council (WBC) interim beltholder and mandatory contender to World middleweight king Saul Canelo' Alvarez.

I've been saying this since December. They made the decision at their convention in December. That's why Jacobs hasn't been calling GGG out. He already knew they couldn't fight because the WBA is waiting to see what happens with Canelo-GGG and the WBC. So when people claim Jacobs is ignoring GGG he's not. He already knows what's going on. And if me, some lowly little poster on a boxing forum knew this back in December, writers that write for these major world wide leader in sports websites should also know this. But they'd rather keep this narrative going that Jacobs is afraid of GGG.

2016???? Is this what they wanna see ??? #jacobsvsggg

Great to hear, I hope both the WBC and WBA keep their word.

If Canelo doesn't accept the fight then strip him and give the title to GGG. Then make Jacobs/GGG happen!

Obviously it's not as big as Canelo/GGG, but it is the next best thing

It puts even more pressure on the WBC to do the right thing, to uphold there mandatory and knowing that the WBA is pretty much saying to the WBC sort your **** out because this is the biggest fight to be made..everybody is backing goldenboy and canelo into a corner ....it sounds like the WBA are true to therre word by making one champion now....great news

With rumors that Khanelo bombed, this could happen.

But then again, I bet Jacobs & PBC try to excuse themselves out of being plucked by GGG.

I was always skeptical of the possibility of a GGG-Jacobs fight for that reason. However, Wade is a Haymon fighter and we see they made that happen. Tom Loeffler said that Haymon was very easy to work and negotiate with, saying they were able ro make the Wade fight in less than a week. This looks good for a future Golovkin-Jacobs matchup.

I just hope one of the two fight GGG. Would be hilarious if Canelo offered ANOTHER step aside for May '17, Jacobs signed instead to fight Lee July 30th/August and Billy Joe signed to rematch Eubank sometime mid-late summer. All of them essentially ducking at the same time.
