It's best we ask Maidana when he returns

Maybe I'm just jealous. I can't sweat to save my life. My body just doesn't sweat much. When I work out my skin just gets humid and that's all. I can't cut water weight like they do.

        Nah.

It's a different sport, but MMA guys use the same methods. I just watched a handful of their fighters have a discussion about weight cutting the other day.

Rockhold and Weidman both cut to 185, from over 225. On one occasion Weidman took a fight on 2 weeks notice and cut 34lbs to make it, on another occasion he cut 18lbs on 8 days. It was an interesting watch.

All boxers sweat profusely. If you train HARD you sweat. You also need to drink a lot of water regularly to sweat. Without being properly hydrated your body won't exert the reserves in your body to keep itself cool.

When I was in high school I didn't sweat much be it wrestling, basketball, or general weight lifting. It wasn't until my 20s that I started to drink water properly and train HARDER in shadow boxing that I finally saw the sweat I needed. Also in my 20s I changed my body to a more slim physique and toned. The earlier days of high school and garbage I was more focused on being cut and weight lifting. ***** stuff imo. You have to push yourself to sweat and by sweating should be the BEST motivation because it's a guaranteed sign to getting FIT! Going the distance requires extreme stamina, and if you don'T sweat you'Re not cut out for the pros.

Not necessarily, but they might be. I'm sure some do it naturally and some do whatever they can get away with. There are lot of variables as well. Bodyfat at the starting point is obviously a big one.

Experience is a big factor as well. Conor McGregor was regularly cutting 20lbs+ in the 48 hours before his weigh-ins for featherweight fights, and pulling it off. Then you have someone like Chad Dawson whose cut for the Ward fight was an absolute clusterfuck.

It must be absolute hell though. If they can use anything at all to make it easier I'm sure they'd do it.

I might be being naive, but I think using taking illegal drugs so close to the fight would be the worst time to use them.

Im sure some do, but I dont reckon it would be as common as using PED's in the gap between fights

There isn't a culture of HUGE weight cutting in Boxing compared to MMA. People used to cut weight in the past by just starving themselves (something which I heard Broner did for his last fight) but Wrestlers who went into MMA brought about techniques on how to cut a lot of weight, fast.

Huge weight cuts are far more common in MMA than they are in Boxing. There is now an IV ban post weigh-in in Nevada I believe, so that has led to fighters managing their weight better in between fights and not blowing up as much.

Huge weight cutters are Chael Sonnen, Ronda Rousey, Chris Weidman, Conor McGregor amongst many others. I heard Chael Sonnen saying he was going to cut like 20+lbs in just under a day, pure with water, baths, saunas.

A lot of them use diuretics to wring those last drops out. Same drugs bodybuilders use to get cut before a competition.
