You know how you know Victor Ortiz quit?

When a fighter loses to KO's in several fights like Paulie Malignaggi and Carlos Quintana, they usually give a speech hinting retirement. Ortiz had some pretty bad KO losses and he always says "I'll be back soon." Anyone that was really out cold in several occasions would come to the realization that they have to retire. Someone saying they will "be back" knows they didn't dig deep enough or try as hard. This was just a pay check for Ortiz. He didn't want to go to war. He was hoping to box his way to a decision and the moment things got rough he wanted out.

it's weird how you can see ho in someone right early in their careers.

you're either born a fighter or you're not. you can't train that heart.

I mean after the Collazo fight it was obvious right? I'll give him the fight he quit when he had a destroyed jaw. The Collazo fight he got dropped by a feather fisted guy and definitely quit. It was over after that.

If he would have beaten Collazo there would have not been a dispute about Khan or Maidana getting the Mayweather fight. Ortiz loves throwing away money.

The guy was taking a beating, dropped twice, eating punches left and right.

          What more do you want?

If he hadn't got up the first time, then fair enough, complain. But he did get up and was only going to get beaten down again like Dominic Wade.

What was the point of him continuing?

I rewatched Maidana/Ortiz yesterday and I thought it was a strange mix of funny/sad that HBO talked up Ortiz's heart nonstop throughout that fight, and claimed Maidana looked like he wanted to quit in the 2nd round. It was really interesting to watch again and see how quickly opinion of Ortiz changed from him being a prototype warrior to a guy who quit when the going got tough.

That fight was the end of him, even though it took a couple years to see for sure.

I would agree with your argument, if I hadn't watched Chris Algieri take a beating against Pacquiao, dropped SIX TIMES, and kept going all the way to the bell.

I would also agree if I hadn't watched Chris Algieri basically go out on his sword against Errol Spence. AFTER being embarrassed by Manny, mind you.

My point is, it looks bad when some dude that had no amateur background whatsoever has more heart than Victoria Ortiz who's been in the game since he was a kid.
