Ortiz was never that good. I don't think Top Rank ever fully bought in when they promoted him either. It's not even his heart and chin. It's actually his skill set that is just not up to par. I blame his former trainer more than anything. He and Berto are pretty much the same fighter with the same exact flaws only Berto has the heart of a lion, and Ortiz just doesnt.

It's funny because Ortiz fought back and showed real grit at first against Maidana before he eventually crumbled. Then in the first Berto fight he was a machine. My theory for that fight is he had to be on steroids. He hasn't shown the same grit since.

Yea that fight was the start. That was when he gave that famous "I don't think I deserve to be taking this type of punishment" speech.

If you go back in history to when he used to be with Garcia's and look into why they had a falling out.

The Garcia's have always talked about how they saw the mental lapses and the no heart mentality he had deep down when he was with them. It was always there. As talented as Victor was his talent wasnt good enough to cover up those lapses in him.

I think it was always there. It's not like something happened against Maidana that was particularly vicious. We just saw that he can't take it when someone fights back against him. He plain never had the heart or intelligence to make full use of his talent.

It's kind of funny that people genuinely believed he could beat Mayweather at one point. Not many, but some built him up like it was possible.

ortiz will just explosive with some pop and a weak ass heart, once he started getting to that level where heart matters he failed.

see difference with rios is he was all heart so he actually went further than rios in this boxing game.
