Wow.. that's shocking to me. I think this is a 50 50 fight. And actually think Porter will win another ugly rough housing fight similar to Broner vs Porter. Not sure Thurman has the jab to keep Porter off of him. I'm betting on Porter with those good odds
Why is Porter almost a 2-1 underdog vs Thurman?

2-1 sounds about right. Porter has a loss and a draw to fighters IMO Thurman would've/did beat. But I get what you are thinking, styles make fights and if Porter can make things very uncomfortable for Thurman on the inside which I think he will, than it could be Thurmans first L. Problem is getting inside, after every bell sounds, Porter runs the risk of getting 1x'ed on the way in which I think is why hes favored, more power and better movement gives him a better chance of winning Porters style. -

Definitely agree its a 50/50 fight & I won't be surprised who wins, but like piojo del norte hints at its about what attracts the most bets not what the chances really are.
Public perception>Actual chance to win. I suspect as we get closer to fight time the line will narrow down when the more intelligent bettors start laying more money down.Comment

Porter is a good fighter but I dont see nothing special about him besides his mind set and that gets you over certain hurdles.
Thurman should be the favorite...he has more talent and up side. Outside of physical strength there is nothing Porter has over thurman.Comment

Seems about right.
Thurman is not just some power punching brawler, guy has shown he can box.
Porter has been out boxed before. Based on that I'd favor Thurman.Comment

Being less than a 2-1 underdog means the odds are viewed as dam close. Many fights where a lot of people felt it was more or less 50/50 had betting odds close to 2/1.
For instance Canelo was around 2-1 or as wide as 2.5-1 in most sports books to beat Cotto, though the general opinion of fight fans and analysts was that it was a 50/50 type matchup.
I wouldn't really refer to Porter as an 'underdog' or to Porter winning as an 'upset' since the fight seems pretty even on paper. If anything Thurman is probably getting the nod from a higher percentage of sports bettors because Kell Brook made Porter look bad, and Thurman hasn't been made to look all that vulnerable yet.Last edited by BrometheusBob.; 04-29-2016, 10:24 AM.Comment

Agree with your overall take on Porter, but I don't think this is a good style matchup for Thurman & why I see it as a 50/50 fight. Porter sets a nice pace & will be on Thurman's chest all night.
And again I think people make too much of betting odds as to the "real odds". There are a lot of dummies betting on sports & the lines will reflect what the public perception is + where the money is going not a guys actual chance to win or lose in a unbiased, reasonable persons opinion with knowledge about the event & athletes necessarily.Comment
