Yes. It hurts to get punched in the face. As a result, I will never call someone who does it for a living a coward.

Never in a gym but I use to run with some brothers way back in my twenties who had pretty extensive amateur careers. We would go to the park and spar. I learned alot from them as I got better, by the time we went our separate ways I was bringing the pain and they were sparing sessions in name only. Later I started working with this guy who was heavily into MMA or so he said. We sparred a few times, no feet, he didn't ask me to after the second or third time. My old budies from back in the day had my hands flyin and my head movin. I miss it really. I wish I had time now but I work out of town too much. I was in great shape back then.

Three amateur fights, 100's of rounds sparing. Most of it was sparing in the summer because I was in school. One summer trained by Tony Zale, he spent three weeks with me just working on my jab. That's why for me I say that people don't understand how good Ward is. Because one of the biggest aspects of the sweet science is what a good boxer causes to not happen. When he's right there and he can't be touched. That's hard to understand if you haven't been in the ring.

Going to the gym and sparring a little doesn't make you the moral authority lol. It's basically the same as never having boxed at all. I don't get this attitude...it only seems to exist among combat sport fans. Fans of hockey don't have to prove to other fans that they go to the rink.
I respectfully disagree, how can a fan or person know how hard a sport is if they've never actually tried it themselves? How can you critic a professional if you don't know anything about the sport?

I've practiced boxing and kickboxing for about 16 years, sparred many rounds an developed a true respect for those that try to earn a living at the sport.......something I could never do.

                Have you?
Love sparring but theres always that ******* thats trying to turn a spar into a real fight. Used to see a lot of gym wars at by boxing gym because of it.

I DO think that some critics wouldnt be quite as nasty in their critique of fighters if they were ever to be forced to deal with a shot that makes them feel like they are either about to vomit ...or that their head is spinning wildly and their legs arent cooperating 100 pct...

Yea after sparring for the first time when.I was 17. Made me look at boxing alot diffrent.

The conditioning, not getting hit, landing clean punches, distance, timing, all are harder than you think.

Yeah from 12 to 19 years old that's what I did.

Yo John, can you train me and turn me into a pro? I'm fast as ****, I hit hard, and I can beat your best fighter within my weight class after 6 months of training. If I can't, don't train me.
