He beat a young Ray Mercer too....trolled him and taunted. He was in his 40s. Even that Mercer would beat little ass Marciano

Marciano was great for his era and time but he is not a top ten ATG heavyweight in my book. He didnt beat good enough competition and his skills dont compare to the likes of Jack Johnson or even Joe Frazier who was aggressive but had a very good defense and showed he could hand with guys well into the 200s. Marciano would get blitzed by beltholders and contenders of the past.

      My opinion is this.

He's wrong about Rocky compared to him. Period.

But something else he was saying resonated. He made it seem like he was just talking in order to keep the name of Rocky Marciano alive? Why? It didn't make any sense.

What I see happening during the speech is that Holmes was DEEPLY disappointed and shocked at his loss to Spinks on fight # 50 which would have put him over the top of Marciano.

He gave a very emotional speech which started in anger and disappointment. But if you notice, towards the second half of the speech, he was already trying to backtrack in his insults of Marciano, possibly regretting having insulted his memory as well as the presence of his surviving brothers in the audience.

As to Holmes vs Marciano prime for prime, my pick is Holmes...

...but Marciano was no doubt the greatest Cruiserweight in history.

Holmes was just keeping it real, and much of his context was regarding a racial divide. There's always heat whenever a person doesn't get his respect or credit, and had to lay it down straight to Marciano's family that took it the wrong way. Holmes had to set it empirically

I'm not so sure Holmes is underrated. I kind of thought every one rated him..as he was a top quality fighter.

He's wrong about Marciano though. Marcinao wasn't a bum in the slightest.

lmao, Wlad most certainly is a bum.

Larry Holmes was well better than Wlad, but he's still a dumb **** who'd gotten knocked the **** out by Marciano.

I don't give a **** what you ****** ****s assume. Rock was hit by harder punches than Holmes threw. Rock went right through better set-ups than Holmes ever attempted. Rock punches harder than Shaver, harder than Forman, and harder than the gun your local police carries. Larry presents nothing Rock didn't already deal with, Marciano present a challenge Larry's never dealt with. The closest thing to Marciano Holmes dealt with was Tyson. Who used speed to open you up, not deception. The lie Marciano sold is still being sold, and Larry's not wise enough to the game to figure it out. It's real simple, why the **** did Charles not just move? Because Charles was just as sure of what he was looking at as Larry. If you think the right hook is obvious you need to learn more about Marciano's total strategy because that's exactly how he's landing. You thinking he's obvious lets him deceive you. Larry's lack of respect for this, and lack of acknowledgment of it let's you pretty well know he'd go the same way everyone who said the same exact **** went. Knocked the **** out.

So yeah, tell me about size, because size equates to ring coverage, and power right? Except Marciano covered more ring and hit harder. Shaver's whole claim to power his Ali saying he's the hardest puncher Ali ever faced. Marciano was measured by the US Army.

The dip right wing a right hook until they count on it being a right hook and smash him with the overhand **** still works, would have worked, never didn't work. Literally everything else has failed. Floyd might have an 0, but Floyd does not have his own unique fighting style. He's simply better. ******, basic, slow, lumbering Marciano still hasn't been figured out, and his style has never been duplicated.

What dropped Fury last? A Marciano style loop right he didn't see coming from a man who weighs just around 200 even. Maybe if Cunningham had the chin, and power of Marciano he'd've won. Maybe if Cunningham just worked the dip, maybe is mimicking Marciano was a bit more than just a punch Cunningham wouldn't be ****. But he is and he still used a Marciano technique to drop the man who beat the man.

Marciano- greatest HW of all time. h2h killer. even in the d20 system Marciano is unstoppable. You can not quantify his stats in a system without him killing everyone's ass unless you downgrade his raw data. That's not Ali's or Larry's stats, not Floyd's either, not even SRR, only Marciano. Because he was ****ing godly.

The problem is, Holmes' rise came at the decline of others. Holmes was underrated simply because of the competition at the time.

He never should have come back against Tyson. Period.

Larry Holmes may have the right to say that.

And it is true that Marciano's signature wins came against less than prime opponents.

Personally, I do not see Rocky as a top 10 heavy, iconic mark or not.

Yes, Larry has the right to call Rocky that.

                    But, I don't.

                    And I wont.

Larry Holmes is a habitual hater. Anybody that people have rated over him he's gonna hate on. Dude is wearing hats with his own name on them, that tells you everything you need to know about his state of mind. **** boy.
