Religion is just one of many things people will disagree and fight over. Remove or move on from religion, they'll find something else. At the end of the day, it's all about politics - the lust for power and influence. Religion and atheism are theological and philosophical positions, not scientific ones, so i'm not sure why science is the alternative to religion in your view. Its not on the same scale. Looking at it in a purely scientific way, the burden would be on both sides of the argument to provide scientific evidence for both the existence of their God, or the evidence that it doesn't exist, which is impossible in both cases.

I've seen dinosaur bones, i've seen fossils, i've seen the earth through satellite images...
I'm yet to see a 7.1 ft long haired fella called Jesus, the fella who died and came back to life.
Religion is simply an obstacle, a cult from the days when the world was more barbaric, less civilized and extremely simple. Religion was used to explain everything and in a way acted as a set of laws to live by.
There are 100's of religions, people worshiping men, women, animals, the sun, water etc...everyone thinks their religion is the one
I put my faith in what i can see, hear and the evidence which is infront of me.Comment

You're right to do so, but neither religion nor atheism are scientific positions. If you want to stay scientific about it, you'd sit on the fence because there's no scientific evidence either way. Too many people use the fallacy of assuming their side is correct if the other side cannot prove they are. Both assertive positions need evidence (theres exists no god, or there is one). Its your own personal philosophy that dictates what you believe, and everyone believes their view is correct, at least to them. Most religions don't accept dinosaurs roamed the earth, most don't accept the earth is round.

Sure, there are examples of religious texts claiming things that we now know are incorrect. Its only natural if some fundamentalist religions follow such scripts written thousands of years ago without critique. I'd say its a minority who'd do so in the face of so much evidence against those claims. But also many evolve and work alongside science. Its the beauty of theological debate and progress. In my church, we believe that most texts like the Bible etc are mostly cultural variations of the same set of principles.
You may have a point about mass organised religion as a form of political control, but thats something else. I just find it strange how you claim 'science' is the only rational way of thinking when theres none to use. But I agree religion should be left to the individual as a private matter, not forced on anyone elseComment
