    Saul Alvarez, let's be real.

Dude is really not all that OK.

An old, blown up Floyd put a beating on him.

He really didn't look that impressive beating cotto up (if he was all he was made out to be he would have matgarito'd or pacquiao'd him)

Lara and trout gave him fits.

I mean its kind of annoying that we have this b level HBO hype job running around here and many of you are actually falling for it.

Guy is fairly basic, and he's lazy in the ring too, he does have good pop, decent fundamentals and can take a shot so I give him that, but otherwise he's just well managed and has benefitted from generous judging because he's the golden boy/ HBO house fighter.

Middleweight division currently sucks ass, but golovkin would batter him (and I'm not a GGG fan).

So at the end of the day he's clear #2 in a weak division.

    Great

matthew hatton went the distance with this guy.

shot past prime cotto went the distance with this guy.

Can you imagine GGG going the distance with matthew freaking hatton?

I hope arum pits pacquiao in against canelo.

id favor past prime pacquiao to out point him with fair judging.

Canelo has stamina issues. If Khan can make it past the 5th round, we may get an interesting fight.

A few things are being unfairly ignored.

"Jose Cotto doe, Matthew Hatton doe, Lovemore Ndou doe..."

Canelo had poor amateur experience, with something like 20 fights, typical for a Mexican boxer from Mexico. In these fights people bring up, Canelo was merely 19 and 21 years old.

Miguel Vazquez(future LW champion), Cuello, Baldo, Matthew, Ndou, Cintron, Rhodes(#4 Ring 154), Mosley, Lopez were all part of the learning process for a young 19-23 year old Canelo. Like amateur experience without the 4 rounds and headgear, and points scoring system, and similarly experienced fighters. So, yeah, pretty tough to learn that way against such durable veterans.

His first real pro fight other than Ryan Rhodes and a green Miguel Vazquez was Austin Trout.

Canelo had been want to step up, so I don't know where the well manged comment comes from when GBP tried to secure Victor Ortiz, Paul Williams(pretty much signed), and James Kirkland (wanted more money) in 2012.

Canelo vs Williams was official, it signed and sealed, the date had been chosen, fighters agreed, venue was chosen.

                  http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id...-per-view-bout

Canelo and Williams is done. Signed, sealed and delivered," said Schaefer, who got the deal done on Wednesday. "I think Williams is the biggest name in the division we could get and he has been known for years as one of the most avoided fighters in boxing. He's awkward, he's tall, he's a dangerous fighter and that's what you need on a pay-per-view. You need to give fans fights where they don't know who's going to win the fight.
Canelo at 26 years old has already fought fighters who were world amateur champions and boxing boogiemen, favored to win Olympic gold medals (Lara), 100s of amateur experience between them. What ever your opinion was about those fights, he still fought them and I thought he won. And sorry but Floyd did not beat the **** out of him.

Canelo is a great fighter and he is already a future Hall of Famer.
