I turn 40 on May 9th so my first boxing memories were from the late 70s and early 80s. I must say the 80s were a golden era for boxing! All three major networks had boxing as a large part of their sports programming and I got to watch fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Alexis Arguello, Aaron Pryor, Donald Curry, Marlon Starling, Ray Mancini, Jeff Chandler, Michael Spinks, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Dwight Braxton develop and/or establish their star. They would go onto closed circuit or PPV but you knew what you were getting when you plunked that money down. Now none of the major networks have regular boxing shows. Yes there is still HBO and Showtime but often I don't know who the fighters are. Why do you think this is? I'd love to hear some informed opinions? And what cable outlets are good to see up and coming fighters.
