I've never been in doubt this fight would get signed. One thing you definitely can't say about Ward is that he is a coward. He's fought plenty of good opposition in the past. And you know Kovalev would probably love to fight anybody put in front of him.
This is the best fight that can be made in boxing right now by far. I was never that bothered about Kovalev v Stevenson, i always felt Kovalev is on another level to him anyway but at least it would have shown he's the best in the division and settled it. With the introduction of Ward to 175, it's fairly clearly this is THE fight that has to happen. Both guys are extremely talented but in different ways. Kovalev hasn't beaten an elite prime fighter as he hasn't had chance to fight one, Ward has beaten elite prime fighters like Froch, but it's been a long time and a big spell of inactivity since those days. So it's very intriguing i think.
This fight needs to happen and i'm sure it will. The rest of boxing needs to take notice and see that good fights can be made without too much fuss. The best against the best, and one will lose, so what? it's boxing and there's no shame losing to another great fighter. I wish more fighters would do this.
