The same reason he would shed 5 or 6 pounds for Floyd (money) should be the reason he should shed 4 pounds vs Canelo (money)! Floyd fight he makes 9-10 mil... w/ Canelo he makes 9-10 mil!!
With Floyd he would be destroying a claimed all time great who said he would be easy work. Against Canelo he would be destroying an average fighter who hasn't beaten anyone of MW consequence.

Earth to Mr. Gomez Canelo is the lineal Middleweight Champion which is at 160. If he said GGG is a hypocrite because he didn't want to fight at 168 but wanted a catch weight instead then he brings up a hell of a point.

But that statement is dumb. 155 is not a weiht class.

Even if they thought they had a reasonable chance at winning, the options at the time Ward made his offer were to either pursue their WBC mando at 160 against either (at the time) Cotto or Canelo or take the much riskier and less lucrative path to Ward (which would almost certainly have required a coupla 168 tune-ups and probably a permanent move to SMW). From a business standpoint it was an absolute no-brainer, the problems which have subsequently plagued the Canelo - GGG fight notwithstanding.

GGG and Ward have a similar set of problems - they are both high risk fighters who don't bring big enough paydays, however GGG did at least have the potential Canelo fight to keep him at MW whereas Ward had pretty much no legitimate opponents to fight on HBO at 168. Throw Kovalev into the mix - a guy who's essentially also cleared out his division (sans Haymon guys) and run out of quality opponents - and HBO had a pretty simple decision to make.

Sorry, just a quick correction. I was interested in the article but the headline is misleading. Right down the bottom is says 'I don't recall the last time I heard a promotor offer to put his guy in 154,160 or 168 as Loeffler did.'
His job description says it all - promotor. Their job is to talk **** and get everyone talking about their guy and build up (sometimes average) fights. I feel this one sentence is going to be around for years to come though haha.

Don't know, Canelo will have to fight him soon, his name is too related to GGG, he should have let that 160 belt if he didn't want to fight him, people in Mexico are just killing Canelo on his Facebook, here is the average comment :

"Eres una verguenza para el box camarada. Arriva Sanchez, Chavez, moralez, Barrera, Marquez. Usted no sirve pinche tieso. Hasta que pelies con triple G wey entonces si Te la creo"

"You are a shame to boxing dude. Big up to Sanchez, Chavez, Morales, Barrera, Marquez. You are useless. Until you fight GGG then if you believe in yourself."

I hope GGG and DeGale keep winning and unifying to such an extent that the 2 fight next year. That's a great match up.
Would be a good fight, but Degale hasn't proven a lot except beating Dirrell.

Would anyone care to explain to me how a fighter can refuse to move up to a weight class,at which he is currently the lineal and wbc champ? This **** really doesn't make any sense.

It's boxing. Fighters do as much or as little as they can get away with.

The weird thing is how much fans have come to identify with the promotional side of the sport. If you really are a fan of the sport then the two top guys in the division should fight. Like Stevenson-Kovalev, Frampton-Rigo, Golovkin-Canelo. When you have to explain this to people it’s like trying to explain why the two teams that get to the Superbowl should have to play each other. It’s so fundamental to the whole thing that explaining is like trying to get through to someone who’s brain damaged.

Promoters have an interest in maximising their return on fighters so I get why they make up excuses to duck these fights. But fans agreeing with them makes no sense whatsoever. They are just saps, who parrot the arguments of people more powerful than them.

"Team Golovkin is asking Canelo to move up to another weight class to face him..."

Very funny. Golovkin wants to fight for the middleweight belt in the full middleweight weight. What a shame! That VP is an ******* and should shut up and die!
