russell vs cruz wouldn't even do 150K maybe even 100K.
If Golovkin does 100k v Lemieux, how does Santa (who is barely stepping out of undercard status) vs Russel (who no one cares about) do even half of that?
Generally, I agree with what you're saying though. We need fewer PPVs, esp PPVS that no one cares about.
I think PPV is acceptable when it's a once a year thing, reserved for the "must see" fights.
Jacobs-Golovkin, Fury-Wilder, and Stevenson-Kovalev are the only fights that Showtime should be considered for PPV in 2016 (you can add to that a potential Thurman-Porter winner vs Brook-Garcia winner PPV, and a PPV if Floyd chooses to come back).
If none of those fights manifest themselves, there's no need to simply do a PPV for the sake of doing a PPV. (Especially after Showtime's share on the Floyd deal left them with no money loss on the deal, ~$80m in HD fees, and likely another $40m off of their share of the actual PPV).
Let that sink in; simply rolling the Floyd revenues exclusively into boxing content comfortably finances Showtime's boxing schedule for four years. (with any money made during that period rolled over into subsequent years)
