He got exposed as a B level fighter when leading up to the fight he was being considered an A level fighter. He went and hid an Germany. Came back to the US as his career is winding down. He was never elite.

Of course he wasn't elite but when an also ran contender moves up after a brutal stoppage loss, going neck and neck with a long standing champ is a very good result.
