Comments Thread For: David Price: Tyson Fury Not Getting Proper Respect as Champion

Over the years, British heavyweights David Price and Tyson Fury have exchanged more than their fair share of verbal jabs in the press. At one time their matchup was regarded as one of the biggest fights to be made on British soil. Price holds an amateur win over Fury. That collision was derailed after Price suffered back to back knockout defeats to veteran Tony Thompson in 2013.

I've got to agree with him. He's not getting the respect he deserves in the UK anyway.

Hes in the shadow of Anthony Joshua right now, even though he beat THE man and Joshua beat nobody.

It kinda pisses me off tbh. Before the Martin fight, a colleague who knows I'm into boxing asked me if I thought the UK would finally have a heavyweight champ once again.

Had to remind him that Fury was actually "The Champ". He'd completely forgotten he existed.

Good on Price for saying that. I totally agree. It's criminal how little respect or recognition Fury's got in the UK since beating the Klit. Meanwhile Anthony Joshua, a manufactured product with a phoney gold medal, gets an MBE and is in the running for SPOTY after beating two complete no-hopers and stealing one of the belts that was rightfully won by Fury. It's clear who the UK media are getting behind and that's understandable I suppose, considering some of the dodgy things Fury has said lately as well as his overall lack of brand marketability, but it really makes me want to root against AJ on principle, and I don't personally dislike the guy. Anyway, I hope they fight soon and settle the matter once and for all. My fear though, is that Hearn milks AJ's popularity with the casuals by keeping him far away from Fury or any other legit threat for as long as possible.

Price angling for a Fury shot after he's ko'd a couple of journeymen....? I'd still like to see it.

If he's ever going to have a shot at another major belt again they need to jump him from fighting journeymen to somebody with a belt, because anything inbetween and he looks at best vulnerable and at worst outright hopeless.

Price and Fury supporting each other now. Will they become friends?

Price is right about Fury not being respected. As some people suggested here, Joshua is considered a better boxer than Fury in the UK (not by boxing hardcores but media and casuals), and is getting much more relevance for his IBF title rather than the actual champ of the world.
