This is a problem I notice too. It's why I reserve judgment on some fighters till I see them fighting at their true weight. Basically, if you truly are a good fighter you shouldn't need a size advantage. Look at JCCjr, perfect example. The guy had just above club fighter skills and look how far he got fighting smaller opposition.

        Lol...

Regarding the weight cut, surely GGG could make 155, but it's not something a MW champ should have to do, especially against someone who comes in at the same weight but is so used to the weight cut that he's created his own weight class through it.

I don't consider him small or big for MW. He seems about the size of what a middleweight looks like on average. His build reminds me of a marginally taller Hagler. Very muscular & thin at the same time it seems.

I would personally consider someone with Cotto's build to be a small MW & would consider people with builds like Jacobs & Quillen to be big middleweights.

The best middleweights historically have been taller (SRR, Monzon) than Golovkin or have way, way more reach (Hagler.)

Golovkin is smallish when compared to the top group.

He is a true middleweight. The guy is what 35? That's his ideal weight. What did he start at in the amateurs? 147?

This is for adults with reasonable input.
Gennady Golovkin is already 34 years old, yet he's been fighting 165lbs or less since he was 21 years old, and 160 or less since he was 23. From 21 on, nearly every other elite fighter who gets to fighting in their 30s has put on at least 15-20 pounds to their frames.

Yes, Golovkin is either a small middleweight or he's a punk.

                  Spot on sir!
He's 'average', but doesn't have a physical advantage over other MWs, which should eventually land him in trouble - the lack of reach especially.

Because of this reason, I don't think Golovkin will retire undefeated. A smart, skilled fighter that's bigger than him should be able to get a decision over him.
I mean, Gilberto Ramirez has like 4" height and 5" reach advantage. If that guy continues to improve and they fight in ~2-3 years, I'd say Golovkin would be an underdog.

No he's a big middleweight, he doesn't have the big muscles but he's real thick.
