Boxing Wouldn’t Bow to Raheem; Will Freitas?

I don't think one can really fault the fans for reserving adulation for Raheem. To say that fans do not widely respect Raheem, I think, is not quite accurate either. He may not have the adulation, but most fans are paying attention.
Raheem's problem, it seems, is that he has faced only one big name, as yet: Morales. Rocky does not as yet qualify as a big name (who knows? he may someday...)
It may or may not be his management's fault that such is the case. Raheem's style coupled with his stature may have combined to make him an "avoided one". As they say, "Hig risk, low return".
If Raheem gets more W's over big names, then respect, I think will come his way. I don't think it's his style that has him being eluded by so much respect; it's in the lack of marque fights.
Popo appears to be among the very few (along with Morales) who're not listening to the "High risk, low return" mantra. He could have opted to ease himself back into the limelight by taking on less risky opponents, but no, he's facing Raheem.
Edit: Addendum: Respect does not always come from power. Willie Pep didn't have much of the latter but had tons of the former.Last edited by grayfist; 04-28-2006, 12:25 AM.
