Erroll Spence Jr Is not Mandatory for Kell Brook

Errol Spence Jr is still one fight away from being mandatory challenger to IBF champion Kell Brook

Errol Spence Jr halted Chris Algieri in the fifth round on Saturday night
The IBF has confirmed that Errol Spence Jr is still one fight away from becoming mandatory challenger to Kell Brook.

The highly-rated American enhanced his reputation with a fifth-round stoppage win against Chris Algieri at the weekend and called for a clash with IBF welterweight champion Brook.

But the IBF has informed Spence Jr that he must face Konstantin Ponomarev in a final eliminator for a shot at Brook's title.
"Errol Spence is the No 2 contender.

"We just ordered Errol Spence and the No 3 contender Konstantin Ponomarev to start negotiating for the eliminator for the No 1 and the mandatory position."

Konstantin Ponomarev is another unbeaten contender
Spence Jr has a perfect 20 fight record, with 17 stoppages, while Russian Ponomarev is also yet to suffer a defeat in his 30 fights.

Brook will not have to start negotiations for his next mandatory until October and can make a voluntary defence against any other contender within the top 15 of the organisation's rankings.

Yea, i saw that it was posted earlier,GOOD for Spence. I think he needs to keep building himself, have 2-3 more fights this year then look for a title shot next year

Yeah I figured this fight won't be a realistic possibility until next year. I hope they both stay active.

Spence can fight the eliminator this summer than Diego Chaves or somebody in the fall. Then hopefully we get this fight early next year.

        It's good.

He needs a few more fights at a solid level, still things to learn.

I'll bet anything that Brook won't be a welterweight by the end of 2017. So Spence needs to hurry.

Brook just fought his mandatory, so either it'll be called next spring/summer and he'll have three months from then. But it could be sidestepped by a unification or extra voluntary i.e. what Porter did with Malignaggi.

          It'll be interesting.

Im not really sure why people thought (perhaps hoped) this was the case right now

Brook has just fought his mandatory. The IBF are fairly consistent in the process they use for mandatory selection. A case of collective amnesia perhaps?

Crazy how Spence has to fighter tougher opponents to face Kell, than Kell has faced during his title reign

              IBF is a joke man

              Anyways Brook beats Spence

There's no money at 154 right now. Would Brook vs Liam Smith do big numbers? I think he'll stay put as long as Garcia and Khan are in the division.

Spence doesnt need Brook at all honestly..Brook is not proven himself. I think Spence is looking toward Thurman/Porter anyway

Hell no. But I just seriously doubt Brook can fight at that weight any longer.

there's Cotto and there's Canelo at the weight. The charlo brothers maybe.

Of course some little domestic fight like Smith, but he'd get battered by Brook.

But Brook needs 10-12 week camps to make 147. It's just not healthy.

Plus, If Khan can fight Canelo at 155, then he can fight Brook at 154 or 152 or whatever catchweight that little girl would be asking for.
