If Golden Boy offers 4 million guarantee plus ppv backend money to Golovkin for a 157 fight and he refuses that then he ducked.

Don't think that Canelo has ever 'given up' weight in fight in his career.

Screw this lets get back to the rules if Canelo wants to hold the belt @ middleweight he can weigh 155 if he likes.. His opponents upto 160 end story..

If its a non title fight and they want to agree on a catch weight thats fine.. Otherwise relinquish the belt this is out of hand!

          Canelo has a MW title
Hasn't been able to make 154 in years
Weighs a few lbs more than Golovkin in the ring

Can someone please explain to me why he needs/wants a catchweight? One simple reason, to stall things. To "let the fight simmer" Bob Arum style.

With Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones intrigued by the idea of bringing a fall fight between Golovkin and Alvarez to Cowboys Stadium, Alvarez and his camp have mentioned stumbling blocks like the idea that “Canelo’s not a true middleweight,” that negotiations could be tricky – things typically said to maneuver for a delay.

“Anything is possible. Right now, [Alvarez] has a fight with Amir Khan and he’s concentrating on that. We’ll make a decision after the fight,” said Eric Gomez, a Golden Boy Promotions executive. “Gennady’s not the first guy to try and goad Canelo into a fight and he’s not going to be the last. That doesn’t make fights. If he thinks insulting him will make the fight, he’s mistaken. Will the fight happen? It’s going to happen. It’s a matter of when. And we’ll make the fight when we feel it’s the best time. (It worked for Lara.)

“Whether that’s after the Khan fight is to be determined.”

Gomez said he’s convinced Alvarez is not yet a true middleweight, given that his 30-day weigh-in figure is more in line with that of a 154-pound fighter.

“Canelo is not a middleweight … if Gennady really wants to make the fight, maybe we can talk about some catch-weight where Gennady comes down [in weight] and Canelo goes up, but he’s truly a 154-pounder,” Gomez said. “If Canelo is giving up weight, Gennady should, too.”

Said Golovkin: “I’m a middleweight. So let’s settle who’s the best middleweight. Canelo? He’s a big idol … is he really a junior-middleweight? Come on, guys. Let’s fight. You don’t want the fight, I understand, you’re 100% a businessman. So go fight Manny Pacquiao. But I wait, I’ve been waiting … let’s go fight.”

Truly a 154 pound fighter who hasn't fought at 154 in 2 years?

WBC says a division titleholder honors his mandatory defense at the division limit. Last time I checked, Candelita has a 160 pound title.

Time to put up or shut up. You forced Khan to move up to some imaginary 155 division to fight the diva. What weight concessions did you make for him, nothing at all but you want to talk about boxers trying to get the diva to move around in weight.

GGG weighs one pound more than Candelita does 30 days out from a fight yet Cadelita is fighting 5 pounds south of middleweight. Sounds to me like he is right where he should be as a middleweight. Probably explains why he has a middleweight title and fights above the 154 pound limit don't you think?

If GGG weighs one more pound then Canelo does 30 days out from a fight then why can't GGG make 155 considering he said last year he could make 154 for Floyd and Manny when he was begging both to fight him? And the weight Canelo was 163 with 30 days out. There are TONS of Jr Middleweights who have to cut more then 9 pounds 30 days out from a fight.

Thats how the business is, GGG has to give in if he wants the fight

                  We all known that

                    It's a blatant duck
He's a middle weight, if he wants it an even playing field have a rehydration clause of max 170

Whatcha talking about? He went to 152 for Floyd.

This stuff happens all the time in boxing. Ultimately this fight happening will probably hinge on GGG wanting a title or a pile of money & a Canelo fight. Respect to him either way. I question if he can even get to 155 if he wanted to despite whats been said in the media.
