  • Comments Thread For: Felix Verdejo's Trainer Not Pleased With Recent Performance

Ricky Marquez, manager and trainer of undefeated Puerto Rican prospect Felix Verdejo (21-0, 14KOs), is not the type of coach to sugarcoat what he feels. He was not very happy with his pupil's most recent performance.

Ut oh. He should expect a tweet from Moretti!

But seriously, the PR press killed him after that fight. There were boos in the arena. The pressure is on Verdejo to perform. Should be interesting June 11th

He can't afford better competition? I guess he can't afford tickets to anybody else's home town either. Seems like the only thing he can afford is protection.

No one should be lmfao... dude looked like a bum fighting a BUM.

Looks like another 10 years of Puerto Rican boxing in the toilet.

I didn't see this fight but what I've read wasn't good. I saw his last fight and his performance wasn't spectacular.

Dude is real good but he is being called the next great PR star. That is alot of pressure to deal with and means he has to impress everytime he goes out. Even with TR behind him that is going to be hard to do, especially anywhere from 140-160 where there is a ton of talent now and in the future.

I hope the pressure doesn't break him to soon.

I watched the fight with some of my friends and I didn't think it was that bad. It definitely wasn't a fight befitting a rising Puerto Rican superstar, but there were some aspects which made it a nice, technical fight.

Whenever theres an article about a PR boxer I like to troll to piss the PR's off but in all honestly Cotto is one of my favorite boxers (stylistically) ever. So with that said, honestly I dont think this guy Verdejo is that good. I think Arum knows this too which is why he hasnt picked up his competition. Arum usually matches his guys hard at some point and has been doing that recently with other young fighters except Verdejo. LW is kinda a weak division so itd be best if he stays there but I think any top ten guy at 140 will give him the business.

Verdejo's performance was terrible. He got into a life or death battle with a fighter who was supposed to be nowhere near his level. Near the end of it, Verdejo was knocked down (though the referee didn't call it) and almost knocked out. His face was busted up.

Now, Top Rank is saying that they won't go through with the proposed Jose Felix fight on June 11th. And this was after hyping it up for weeks in Puerto Rico as a lead-up to the Rodriguez fight. Even on fight night, they were hyping it up; it was even included in the interview questions on air after the fight. And then, bam. A couple hours after the fight, a PR newspaper reports that Top Rank says it wasn't able to make a deal with Jose Felix "because of money." A blatant duck.

And now, this? They're essentially saying that they won't match Verdejo up in good fights for the foreseeable future "because of money." They are totally contradicting what they've been saying up to now, and the reasons for it are clear.

                    This is so embarrassing.
