    Early Stoppage?

First off, I was really impressed with Spence last night. He is a hard hitting, strong welterweight who I reckon beats both Thurman and Porter. But, was the stoppage too early? I felt a guy who had gone to war with Provo and taken a much worse beating against Pacquiao should have been allowed a count. You can't just tell the guy beforehand that the fight will be stopped.

I can't help but feel that if this had been in the UK or Germany, we'd be getting some adverse reactions.

He wasn't taking a worse beating in the Pacquiao fight. Spence went hard on the body early and was loading up on every shot. Even Algieri knew what time it was.

Pac had his face blooded and bloated and KD him about 4 or 5 times. Provo was beating him as bad as Spence.

What I'm saying is, at least let Algieri attempt to get back to his feet. Since when did refs tell you, in the 5th round that the next KD will be the end, especially considering he had a fighter in front of him who had gone through hell in other fights. That's just wrong imo.

It was way too early, didn't the ref know Algieri doesn't fight for about 5 rounds until he's let out of the cage?

He was gonna take a lot of punishment if the fight continued. Spence was throwing some vicious shots. No need to prolong his misery.

You can argue maybe, if you really want to. Algieri was getting whipped on, though. It was the perfect time to stop it before the guy got seriously hurt by something.

Not in New York. They still have that Magomed cloud hanging over them.

I'm not saying let the fight go on, no matter what but the ref had already made up his mind that he would stop it and told CA just as much. At least let the guy get to his feet or try. Like I said, if this was europe then we would be hearing "bad stoppage".

He was getting pounded. It's as though Spence was fighting at a slow pace or boxing to win. He was throwing vicious, well placed punches. If it continued, Algieri would have been seriously hurt.

I swear some boxing fans don't appreciate how dangerous the sport is. It takes one punch ruin someone's life. A fighter finishing on his feet isn't something that should be placed ahead of their health.

Is Algieri complaining about the stoppage?
