On the contrary, Algieri is the one that should ditch this nutjob. What kind of trainer makes a fighter fight in a style that doesn't improve or nurture ANY of his strengths and instead only makes his weaknesses all the more apparent and easy to exploit?

Either this trainer is a complete nutjob or is extremely one dimensional. Either way, Algieri deserves better.
