In the televised co-feature, Christopher Diaz survived a major scare from Ray Ximinez to prevail by unanimous decision in a terrific clash between unbeaten prospects.

The judges scored the bout 77-75, 78-74 and a ridiculous card of 80-72 in favor of Diaz, who dropped to his knees in tears while soaking in the emotional win.

It's really easy to criticize any boxer from any point of view. Verdejo remains undefeated and that's the fact.

That is not the guy's record! They mentioned he has been confused with another boxer. The comets said he has 40 plus fights with only 2 loses. His team was laughing about it in the weight in and said it was going to be a nightmare for Verdejo.

Verdejo needs to step it up. He's learning nothing from these bums and I feel it's just hurting his motivation.

I saw the fight, and Verdejo looked bad, especially considering the opposition. A guy who was supposed to be an easy knockout busted Verdejo up and, near the end of the fight, Verdejo's facial expression reminded me of Cotto vs Margarito, except this fight was nowhere near that level (and obviously without wraps).

Verdejo was almost KO'ed. He was seriously hurt. A jab from the opponent also knocked Verdejo down, but the referee called it a slip. I suppose it could've been a slip, but I saw the punch land before he fell on the replay.

It's so weird. Like, Verdejo looks strong and fast, but it seems like he can't get it all together to make it work. I suspect training is the root cause, but I don't envision him changing trainers, so it is what it is. Not even JuanMa was having this kind of trouble versus such weak opposition early on. It doesn't bode well for Verdejo's future.

Perhaps it's not even fair to chuck it up to the trainer. Maybe Verdejo just isn't what he's hyped up to be, or he's letting stuff get to his head. I remember that one time they asked him about Cotto's business success, and Verdejo was just like, "En eso, yo se la doy..." The way he said it and his nonverbal communication sounded some alarms for me. It was kinda like a "Ah, he isn't all that." Hubris could be what's behind this too, I guess.

In any case, Verdejo NEEDS to do something NOW to fix what's going wrong. He took a beating in this fight. You can hand in perfect scorecards, but you cannot erase the damage someone takes. If he keeps getting into life or death fights, he may not even make it to champion, let alone catching up to Cotto.

I suspect he won't be fighting any top-level guys for a while, after this fight. They should take advantage of it to rest the hand he complains about and reassess his training, strategies, etc.

I've said it for a while that I didn't think he'd make it to the top level as is. Changes need to take place.

That kinda makes it even worse. We don't even know who he fought. He doesn't know who he fought either. How the hell was this fight sanctioned by the WBO if they don't even know who the guy is?
