Comments Thread For: AIBA to meet to repeal prohibiting article for Olympic participation

THE raging row over the permission of professional boxers to compete at the Olympic Games is set to take a notch up when International (Amateur) Boxing Association (AIBA) hold a special meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland next month to repeal an article from its statute in order to pave way for the fighters to officially compete at the games.

What is this but may be a good thing

If AIBA is eventually eliminate the ibf wbo wbc wba ibo wbf wbu wbb nabo usbo bbb ebu ect ect ect and have one true champ in each weight class, it may provide some clarity to the muddy waters of the pro ranks and standardizes rules globally.

This is a new low and no one seems to care. Where are the petitions? This can't be allowed to happen. Disgusting.

This sounds like a huge clusterf#ck to me still. And the Olympics is 4 months away & the last time to qualify is in early June from my understanding. I don't think any legit pro boxer (some of those WSB guys that people consider pros are already in) will fight at the 2016 Olympics.

So this must be what the WBC and the rest of the sanctioning bodies feared. AIBA is trying to take over pro boxing by allowing pros in the Olympics. I don't see why this makes the sanctioning bodies hesitant though. The Olympics only happen once every 4 years and the money won't compare.

If would be good if boxing had a single governing body. But trust me, you don't want AIBA to be it.

Brother, your one of the best posters on the site, but I must disagree. We don't want any international beurocracy running things. Look at the problems with AIBA. There not exclusive to that body. The FIFA scandals are a good example of the foolishness that would be going on in pro boxing if it were ruled by one world body. Right now, if an American fighter doesn't want to go fight inGermany, for example, he doesn't have to. A unitary body governing everything would change that, it would be more corrupt than the bodies we have now, and fighters would have nowhere to go to escape. Just my opinion.

What you say is true and it's very likely that corruption would be rampant. I would just like to see there be only one world champion in each weight class and having only one governing body would fix that.
