There is no 'who' at the moment. It's really a question of how he beats what's available. If he destroyed guys like Canelo and Jacobs it would be significant.

It's probably more about longevity. It will be whatever he achieves over the course of the next 6-7 years. Like Hopkins in a way.

He is already the greatest Middleweight Ever according the a lot of people on this forum

Seriously, it is not just 1 Fight that can make him great, he will need multiple BIG WINS. How can beating Canelo make him great when Canelo himself is not "GREAT" Yet

He has to beat the greats of his era in close weight divisions like Floyd, Canelo, Cotto, Lara, and Ward. You cannot become a legitimate HOF or ATG if you don't fight the best of your era.

            The way I see it he has two options;

If he's really that bothered by his legacy then he's got to start taking risks. Catchweight or not I don't believe anyone thinks Alvarez beats Golovkin nor do any of the other belt holders at 160. He's got to move up. Gilberto Ramirez isn't much more than a warm-up to a fight with Degale. Compared to middleweight 168 has a dearth of divas and is there to be cleaned up. From there, perhaps try and get the winner of Kovalev/ Ward? I think I could live with a catchweight in that circumstance, maybe 172 or something. Should he still remain undefeated at the end maybe you could argue that he reaches the criteria of ATG. Maybe not but you could certainly argue that he justified his hype.

If he's more worried about his bank balance though he should just keep doing what he's doing. Sure he's not earning that much money per fight but it's steady, easy work knocking out over matched opponents for the enjoyment of the casuals. I'm sure he could easily do that for the next 5 to 10 years and retire with more money than most boxers will ever see while barely being challanged.

Does he have to beat Canelo at 155, Brook at 157, Jacobs, Lara, BJS, Eubank at 160.... And then DeGale, Ramirez, Jack, Dirrel Bros at 168. Ward and Kovalev at 175?

I want to hear from the people. Do you have low or high expectations for GGG to reach to become an ATG?

              What's the standard?
To me, Golovkin has to beat these guys to be an ATG:
              - Brook or Lara
              - Saunders
              - Jacobs
              - DeGale/Jack winner
              - Canelo

Of course, all of them. That would take his resume to a new level.

Right now, Badou Jack appears better than James DeGale. I want Jack and DeGale to settle their score before bringing upcoming guys like Callum Smith into the picture.

I would not agree with that. I think Degale edges him.

However, in your scenario you've got Golovkin concluding his business at 160. Degale and Jack will likely settle their score this year so by the time Golovkin moves up it will likely be Degale (or Jack if you really prefer) / Smith.

I think Jack is the best of the three, but it really doesn't matter. Time will tell. The point is, though, that Golovkin should fight the top guy at 168lbs.

I forgot Gilberto Ramirez before, he is definetely into the picture. Looked excellent against Arthur Abraham.
