Comments Thread For: Chris Algieri Embraces The Risk, Headline Position at Barclays

By Thomas Gerbasi - You might have assumed that Chris Algieri enjoyed the little break he got the last time he stepped into the ring against Erick Bone last December. It's not that his 10-round decision victory was easy, but the break being referred to was the one he got when he was in a non-main event for the first time in a long time.

Algeri really breaks the stereotype that you gotta come from adversity to be a hungry fighter. Suburban middle class mommas boy and as tough as they come. He can't punch and his chin might be a bit suspect...but his heart can't be questioned.

Well it's more than suspect...he's been dropped enough. There's a difference between those kind of guys and guys who have never been hurt much less dropped. To me a suspect chin means you could see the guy getting KOd...and it wouldn't exactly be shocking.

Algieri has been called a bum because of the Pacman fight, but really, how many have beaten Manny? I don't necessarily think Chris is any world beater... but I believe Spence will know he was in a fight afterwards... win or lose. That was some serious adversity he had to overcome to beat Provodnikov, and he gave Khan an extremely tough fight. I think many will be surprised with his performance.

Especially for someone who came into boxing late, he's done well and never quits. I hope he wins.

Because unfortunately, we saw that Algieri doesn't do well against pressure fighters.

Spence has the same pattern: lays back in the cut over 3 rounds, then comes out swinging, and swinging HARD. He's not fast, but he doesn't need to be if he connects one shot. Algieri has no power, so I don't see how he's going to keep Spence off of him.

Spence is this era's Gerald McClellan.
