I'm pretty sure the moniker was originated from thee Pretty Boy Floyd, famous gangster. Floyds name is well... Floyd, which is not a common name and Pretty Boy Floyd was a famous gangster and it fit well. That's what common sense would tell us.

This is true. However, the name "Pretty Boy" does come from the source that OP listed. Grown men in a boxing gym aren't likely to call another man "pretty" as a nickname. Just not something that would come out of nowhere. It would be more likely for a woman to come up with.

Pretty Boy is simply a boxing term for a defensive fighter that goes into a maniacal kill mode once he is touched in the face with a good shot ala Mosley and Ortiz who head-butted him and had Floyd in a rage so much he straddled the line of being dqed
