Its Long but trust me, its worth it!
Why is this such news to everyone? Im surprised that it was even being reported by Arum and the media that Floyd vs Margarito was a definte sure thing. This is about big money fights plain and simple. Floyd has let it be known for a few years now that he wants Oscar but Oscar always said he wouldnt fight Floyd until recently.
The reason why I have always thought that these July & August dates for a Margarito fight was a joke is because Floyd would never make that fight without seeing what Oscar is going to do 1st. 1st off Floyd wants to see if Oscar beats Mayorga. Then after that he wants to know what Oscar's plan is because Oscar has a history of always wanting to fight in September for some Ethnic Holiday that I cant think of. Therefore I knew that everything Arum was saying was a joke.
How can people get mad at Floyd over this? Margarito is a great fight but Floyd would make so much more money & fame by fighting Oscar and this is the best chance he has ever had to do it. Hes not going to turn that down until its a last resort. No one even knows who Margarito is except for us hard core boxing fans. You even heard Stephen A. Smith ask "Whats next for Floyd and Im not talking about this Margarito guy, whoever he is". Even he doesnt know him and he "claims" to be a boxing junky.
Also, the media and fans need to stop listening to Arum. This guy has been crooked for so long but gets over shadowed by King. Arum is probally worst them him now. He said he offered Floyd 8mil for the Margarito fight but he's lied before and he could easily be lying now but even if he is telling the truth then you know Oscar would give Floyd way more then that.
Then you have Floyd that has had a history of problems with Arum and hadnt been able to fight on PPV until recently. Then we all know that Oscar hates Arum guts and will never make a deal with him, so thats why Floyd has left Arum so he can get the big fight with Oscar, plus doesnt have to give Arum a cut, and Floyd wanted to leave him anyway.
The bottom line is that Floyd makes more money and gets "way" more fame fighting Oscar then Margarito and he still has time to fight Margarito but he knows the Oscar fight needs to happened now because he doesnt have much time left. If Oscar loses to Mayorga like he very well could, then Floyd might and probally will fight Margarito if the numbers are really 8mil like Arum says.
I just cant see how people really believe that Floyd is running from Margarito. Do you really think Floyd is scared of him? Do you really think that if Margarito was the man, made all the money, and had all the fame that Floyd wouldnt be jumping at him? Thats what its all about and again, I dont believe Arum's figures.
Just think about how big a fight with the Golden Boy and the pound for pound, undefeated, best fighter in the world would be? Add to that Oscar coming off a great win over Mayorga, Floyd probally moving up to 154 where he will be really small, Floyd Sr. training Oscar, and them fighting in L.A. where Oscar is from and because of the Las Vegas suspension. Add to that they could sell it as Oscar's last fight no matter what and its against the best in the world? That fight would make Millions. Floyd isnt dumb. This is a much bigger fight then Margarito.
Think about this Headline: Oscar's last fight of his career, going out trying to be maybe the greatest of his generation, fighting at Home in the Staples Center, the place where some might say was his 1st "real" loss against another young speedy Champ moving up in the Pound for Pound King Floyd Mayweather Jr., with Floyd Sr. as Oscar's Trainer. The last time to see one of the greats in Oscar, and if there is anyone that knows how to beat Jr., its Sr. Dont miss this PPV special. This thing will be sold out because its a big fight, all Oscars followers from L.A. will be there, and everyone will buy it because of all thee above and you know the women want to see Oscar for the last time against the Pretty Boy with the Perfect Smile.
Floyd wins that fight and he's boxing's next big thing. He will be on every show, Magazine Cover, and all his fights from here on out will be sold out and on PPV. Some people still wont know him before that fight but after watching him and seeing all the things people say about him then he would instantly be considered one of the greatest of All Time. Couple that with the fact he is changing his Image and you will have Sugar Ray Leonard all over again. Margarito cant do that for him, this is a no brainer.
The bottome line is that Floyd has wanted the Oscar fight for years and before Margarito came anywhere in the picture so for someone to say he is ducking Margarito for Oscar is a joke. After every fight Floyds calls for Oscar and he always lets it be known that he is his #1 priorty over anyone else and we all know why. Why is Floyd being ripped for something that every fighter wants to do. You talk to anyone around that weight class and they will all tell you that they want Oscar over anyone else and we all know why. No one else brings anyway near close to that money and fame.
Besides, him & Oscar may have already talked about this fight on the low and Oscar probally said that we can make a deal if you cut Arum loose. Thats probally why Floyd has been talking to his dad more lately. They all want this fight. Oscar never wanted Floyd at 1st because he has Arum and thats the same reason why Oscar wont fight Margarito. Oscar also never wanted it because his dad trained him, Floyd was too small, and Floyd wasnt a big enough name in the main stream but now Floyd has dropped Arum atleast for this fight, Floyd has gained weight, Floyd is more famous now then he's ever been, Floyd is now for the 1st time universally recognized as the #1 guy out there, and his dad isnt a huge factor because they dont really talk much and its Oscars last fight so it doesnt matter anyway.
Oscar is a money maker and he knows this is the fight to go out on and end his career. He could make close to as much as he ever made, he will be fighting a smaller guy, and you better believe that he is imagining how great it would be to beat the #1 guy and retire on top. His legacy would be set. Another thing is why would Floyd have more fear of Margarito then a Oscar at 154 when Margarito couldnt even beat Santos at 154 and Oscar would kill him? That doesnt make sense, does it?
PS- The bottom line is people are ripping Oscar but why? Because he lost at 160 where he shouldve never been in the 1st place? If he beats Mayorga then that wouldve meant he has beaten Vargas, Mayorga, and "really" beat Shane at 154. I think he is just being over ripped for the lost to Hopkins and poor performance to Sturm because he never shouldve been there anyway. I think a Oscar-Floyd fight will look totally different to people if he beats Mayorga. If he did that then alot of people would pick Oscar in that fight. Alot of people on here are already unimpressed with Floyd at 147, he only weighed 146 for the fight, so you know that alot of people would go against him for a fight at 154 against a guy who has had alot of big wins there.
2 is I think that Floyd and his people think that Oscar is the harder fight. Everyone is talking about Oscar's losses but they were at higher weights. Add to that Floyd came in at only 146 for his last fight so Oscar would be much bigger then him at 154.
