  • Comments Thread For: Marquez: Canelo Too Big For Pacquiao - But I'd Watch The Fight

MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum made headlines recently when he suggested that if Manny Pacquiao defeats Tim Bradley and decides to continue his career, a mega-fight against WBC middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez could be in the future for the eight-division champion.

Has Manny ever had someone in his camp who had ties to PEDs? I know Memo worked with Marquez, and Memo got in trouble for the Balco mess.

Being big doesn't matter if you don't fight a big man's fight. It also doesn't matter when you don't know how to employ your physical advantages. I've been saying for awhile that Manny beats Canelo. And I still feel that way. Canelo is a boxer/puncher that basically fights in spurts. It would be a tactical fight in which Manny would land the clearer shots. He would also outhustle Canelo during lulls. And as long as physically, Manny could handle Canelo's shots. I don't see the fight being all that close. Probably an 8-4 type decision win for Manny.

I agree. Canelo is way too big for Manny. This is a ridiculous fight at this point. Canelo needs to fight guys is size. There is one waiting on him , his belt at his weight class ( u know... the MW division)

I would watch too but Canelo KOs Pac at this point

manny beats canelo maybe 3-4 years ago. but at this point its 50/50 with canelo getting the edge. pac's style is gonna put him in a lot of danger against canelo because for pac to score he needs to throw to let his opponent open up. i know when manny fights bigger or stronger opponents he doesnt go straight at them, he boxes and move around a lot like against rios but at this point i dont think manny can pull it off. maybe im wrong but im giving canelo the edge.

Manny has slowed down. But, he's still a speed demon compared to Canelo. Manny also doesn't fight 3mins a round like he used to. Which wont be a problem against Canelo. Because neither does Ginger. Defensively, Manny is better than I've even seen him. Manny is also counterpunching better than I've ever seen him. He'll see everything Canelo throws coming. Its gonna be hard for Canelo to land consistantly. Ginger would also become hesitant to throw because Manny will counter him effectively. And I think Manny is still quick enough to do some of the things he did against Oscar as far leading with the straight left and being outta there before Canelo can counter him.

i agree with what u said but then again manny tends to get caught with punches that he shouldnt be getting caught with and this is my main concern fighting against canelo. pac cant afford to give anything up to canelo like that. like in the fight with bradley this past saturday, i think it was the 8th or 9th round, pac was doing good then got caught with a punch by tim that he could have avoided, even roy said pac got caught because he was being lazy or he felt he was in total control and didnt react right away. pac tends to get caught with these punches and i think if its against canelo, pac could be in trouble.

Canelo has a stylistic advantage over pac. Not being an old, one dimentional, come forward fighter n all. Canelo's defensive instincts and handspeed are too good while having that much of a size advantage. Pac has none of the skills Mayweather has... No version of Pac would have ever beaten this version of Canelo. Pacquiao was in anguish from a non plaster Margarito with zero power or actual skill. Canelo would quite literally walk through Pacquiao and Marquez him. I love Pac as much as the next guy but this is pure delusions and denial speaking. If you said Angulo or someone that limited I'd say sure but a young guy (doesnt need the footspeed vs Pac as Pac will need to come to him..), with a lot of handspeed, counter punching ability and some defense with a 20 pound advantage? Keep dreaming. Mayweather aside there isn't a 147 pounder alive who beats Canelo. Floyd's skill set is such that it doesnt matter how big or strong you are because he can keep you from hitting him. Pac WILL be hit. Often. Are people actually serious? Pac has to get inside on the bigger Canelo which is the last place on earth he should be. Pac does well against the slow, "typical" type of Mexican fighter (the bam bams and Margaritos or even Hatton)) who mindlessly come forward with no game plan or hand or foot speed. We've seen when Manny fights smaller counter punchers...he tends to lose. Manny isn't some prolific fighter off the back foot. Anytime anyone makes him retreat he looks lost. Marquez, Morales, even Mayweather all had the ability to back Pacquiao up and could use his agresssion against him. Manny is stylistically a good matchup IF Canelo were his size. It's good until it isnt...and size makes it go from "totally..Pac will take his ass he has an edge in speed, power, durability and output" to "..Pac should throw as little punches as possible as Canelo will find him from ALL ranges and Pac cannot hurt Canelo..actually isnt Canelo just WAY too skilled to have such a size advantage over someone? Is this even going to get sanctioned? Im worried about Pacquiao..." A 25 year old middleweight champion isnt losing to Pac. Neither is GGG...neither is Jacobs...

Canelo should fight a MW or at least JMW. But the money involved in a PPV with Pacquiao is hard to turn down.
