  • Boxing in recent times was summed up with that Angel Garcia quote..something about; why would a fighter risk losing when there is an easier fight on offer.

I'm all for fighters getting paid well for what they do. But these days they can get paid really well to take part in gross mismatches. So they're not going to risk facing a good opponent.
Or they might 'consider' it for a few seconds while asking for a unrealistic purse.

This diva era has seen my interest in boxing wane, more so than ever before.

They're all aiming towards Pacquiao/Mayweather money, without putting in the Pacquiao/Mayweather work first.

The era where everyone thinks they are an 'A' side.

    • This is the sign of the times. I cannot blame the Crawford's, Walter's or any other fighter. They see how others get paid and they want their piece I guess. It is the promoters fault for paying too high for appearance fights, then the big fights become too expensive

Wow. That's crazy, especially since Crawford is still being built and is not a major draw outside of his home city yet, and this PPV would be Top Rank doing him a big favor in the first place.

Hopefully, it is just a negotiating tactic.
Not shocked, its the new breed of "fighters". Nothing new.

Agreed. Everyone on this planet would expect a pay increase if they were asked to do twice as much work. Crawford believes his pay should increase when stepping up to fight the best in his division. The thing is, when you make 1.21 mill fighting the Lundy's of the world, you're already in the millionaire bracket, so you're digging much deeper into the promoter/network's pockets.

The reason I like the analogy of "Arum creating the monster," is because Crawford has been conditioned to believe he deserves over a million no matter who he fights, and no matter what his opponent gets paid. Arum started this, and the first time you overpay a fighter, you can't go back.

That being said, I've been going hard on Arum in this thread, so I'm going to cut him some slack. We don't know what amount Crawford is rejecting. 2.5+ mill would certainly be pushing it. 1.5 and below, and the attention goes back to Arum. Let's not forget, Postol has to get paid to.

One things for sure, this puts Top Rank in a bad position. They can't afford for Crawford to not be happy. If they won't pay him, we know who will.

Don't know where you live but I don't know many works in the US that take paycuts, they might get their hours cut but not many take or even asked to take a "Paycut". What they will do let go some works to keep paying their top works

Looking at the landscape of Top Rank Roster, Crawford is one of their most important fighters going into the future without Pacquiao so he is going to have to be paid
