  • Abraham vs. Canelo

How long would Canelo last if they fought? They would fight at 168lbs.

Personally, I think Canelo would last around 8 rounds.

People need to accept the fact that there isn't really anything special about Canelo.

He is a good, solid world level fighter who has been matched well, that's about it.

He's outsized almost all of his opponents, so he usually goes into the ring with a big weight and strength advantage, when you combine that with "pretty good" skills, it means he's done well.

Well against Abraham, he is around equal in skill and way smaller, weaker and hits nowhere near as hard.

He's not going to suddenly develop into this backfoot pure-boxer, and he doesn't have the ability to beat Abraham in the pocket

... at this stage (i.e. age), Canelo would beat Abraham even at 168.
Abraham only fought cans in Germany, since the Super Six -- when he lost to almost everyone.

Abraham is not even an inside fighter so what do you mean Canelo doesn't have the ability to beat him in the pocket? Abraham is not only susceptible to the body but he can't take it there and it's been one of his biggest weaknesses. It's bad enough that he complains to the ref to neutralize his opponents from going downstairs, I can't imagine how he'd deal with Canelo's precision to the body. If this was Abraham at 160, when people were really high on him, still not a difficult fight for Canelo.

TS is talking about 168 so I'd rather leave that alone. Canelo hasn't even fought at the full limit of 160 let alone 168. At the same time, you can't ignore that Abraham looked horrid against a far lesser fighter in Murray, in fact I can't even remember the last time he looked good. He's become more of an ambush fighter with crap stamina. It's not worth thinking about, especially now.

Canelo's only advantage is that he would be heavier than Arthur Abraham, but other than that, Abraham is taller, got longer arms, punches harder and is both more skilled and experienced. Arthur would kill Canelo, even now.
