    Martin is very poor.

Joshua has been gifted a title as well.

AJ beating the complete no-mark Charles Martin, for a paper title Martin won in farcical fashion, will have more impact than Fury upsetting the odds and conclusively beating the preeminent undisputed (< for all intents and purposes) heavyweight champion in the champion's backyard?

        Riiiiiigggggght.

          Nah.

Beating Vlad, the most dominant champ of the past 20 years is an accomplishment, regardless of how crappy the fight was or how un-Vlad like he looked in it.

Beating a dude like Martin who shouldn't even have the belt isn't that big of a deal.

I will say that it sounds better to say that he's a "heavyweight champion" than a "contender", which will help to make him a star, but the IBF belt is a ****ing joke and Martin won it in the most farcical way possible

Andre Ward probably fits into that category to some extent. Let's be fair, with his talent...if he had a big personality or even a shred of public image, he would be huge but only dedicated boxing fans know him really, not many outside of that.

At least Wilder has a bit of personality, Thurman too. So i could see that, if they beat some good opposition.

I actually think AJ is a total bore of a human being from his interviews, but that's because he has been very well media trained to give off this big smiling humble olympian image, but people lap that up, especially the British public...especially with the media right behind him hyping him up. It's going to be an almighty fall if he turns out to be nowhere near a top level fighter.
It's pretty sad when the personality of a fighter outside the ring plays a significant role in whether the fighter is popular or not. I don't watch boxing to hear the fighters crack jokes. I do find some of the more outrageous characters in boxing to be amusing but ultimately, I appreciate talent, skill and action in the ring.
Great athletes in the large bulk of pro sports are guaranteed to be highly successful if they produce results, regardless of their personality. Engaging and wild personalities certainly add to the enjoyment of boxing but if the focus is on the personality of the fighter more than actual boxing ability, the general public must view boxing in the same light as WWE.

Well i agree, but it's just the way of the world isn't it.

Look at a guy like Usain Bolt. he transcended a sport that most people don't care about because he has an image, a personality, that pose he does etc. it's all part of the reason along with his talent.

You don't have to be flash or loud, you just need an image. Golovkin has an image, he has that smiling nice guy with the broken English but can knock people out. Manny was similar. I just don't see that from someone like Crawford, he has no image to sell.

I don't agree thats how it should be, but that's the way it is in all entertainment industries and boxing is still considered entertainment, even if it's a sport.

Personality sells but only to an extent. If broner doesn't get his act together all that personality won't get him ****.
Fans like action & to be entertained. Ktfo of your opponent or go out on your shield & the fans love you, you'll sell.
It's all well & good saying boxing is like a chess match but who the *** wants to watch 2 chess players outside of Russia.
With that said if I had kids in the sport I'd want them fighting safe like floyd & not taking punishment.

The Joshua hype train keeps rolling...

He is being gifted the weakest belt in the division against a C Class fighter.

Seriously, some people DKSAB - Joshua will only be a paper champion until he steps up, and that won't happen until Eddie Hearn has robbed the UK public of a few million £££ in PPV BS against more Euro bums and over the hill fighters.

If AJ beats Wilder & Ortiz, it still wouldn't surpass what Fury achieved in Germany

To the man on the street in England Audley is right.

Everyone hates fury and the fight was not one for the casuals.

Joshua will KO Martin. Good image and a great sound bite.
