Comments Thread For: Herrera Eager To Test Himself at Welterweight Against Gomez

Mauricio Herrera feels more than ready for his return to the welterweight division. The 35-year-old Herrera (22-5, 7 KOs) and unbeaten Golden Boy Promotions prospect Frankie Gomez (20-0, 13 KOs) are scheduled to meet in a 10-round welterweight bout May 7 on the Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan undercard at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Herrera has fought almost exclusively at junior welterweight the past six years, but boxing Gomez on an HBO Pay-Per-View show was an opportunity the Riverside, California native couldn't pass up.

I think he's going to look better at 147. He fought way above 140 when he turned pro.

Damn Herrera's not as old as I thought. He's hasn't even hit his 10 year mark yet.

Gomez needs to get his act together, I've been a big fan since the get go but his weight issues have constantly dragged him down. Tough fight to call, Herrera's repping my town but Gomez is about to blitz him.

The only time he's missed weight is when he was called on short notice. He has a full training camp this time around. He'll be more than ready for the PPV.
